So I just had a serious moment of freak out.

I'm applying for life insurance, since when I left my job last year I no longer had a policy.

They did blood work and I got the results recently. Today I went on-line to figure out what they meant.

I had been worried because of the (relatively) high risk of false positive HIV results (I know I'm not HIV positive, but the risk of a false positive is significant for a multiparous woman).

Fortunately, that wasn't an issue. But my cholesterol levels were WAAAAYY higher than I've ever seen them before. AAAAGGGHH!

But, thanks to google, I now know that cholesterol levels are elevated by pregnancy and go down quickly after birth. Whew! It may still negatively impact my life insurance application, since apparently, life insurance companies don't care if you're pregnant or not. But at least I don't have to worry about having a heart attack right away!

I didn't know that either! I wonder how quickly they go down? Weeks? Months after birth?

Jadzia - is your good cholesterol too low? Could you increase it by eating good fats and then have your rates reassessed?
