AUGUST 09, 2006 -- LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets here is testing a new device aimed at keeping kids more manageable during the shopping experience, according to published reports. The TV Kart is a car-shaped shopping cart with a TV screen that plays popular children's shows.
Oh come on!

Geesh, TVs in cars, at school, in stores, and now on grocery carts?

Here's what I do to "manage" my kids while shopping. I let them find needed items in the aisle and put it in the cart. I let them decide between certain items. They help put the items on the counter for the cashier. We sing. We count things like eggs, apples, bananas, etc. We play the question game. "Can you name something that is red?"

If all that fails we leave and I return by myself when DH is home.

publix had been on my poop list for awhile now cause they carry these extreme, right-wing religious books, including "parenting" books from James Dobson. so i sent them a very nice email entitled:

Publix-Where Shopping is a Pleasure, but only if you are a right-wing Christian.

Total crap. If they want to help parents get through the store with their kids, they should offer a list of items at the door that the kids can look for during the trip. Like an I Spy thing....something like that.

I've already boycotted restaurants with TVs in them (I will not take my family there to watch a damn television). I sure hope I don't have to start doing the same at grocery stores.

Absolutely unbelievable. Can't our children interact with the real world for even a few minutes?
: I've seen them at all of our local Meijers too. I haven't seen anyone actually using one yet, but I bet that's only because you have to pay.

What next? I mean, maybe we could make a little hat/DVD player with a screen that flips down in front of the child's face. That way wherever she is she can watch TV.

I found more. They are in Publix, WalMart, Dominic's, Meijer, and HEB.

I want to know if they play commercials. Nothing about that on the Cabco website. Anyone know? Cabco is a NZ company. The carts are coming to Canada in '07.

oh honey, where do you think all the extra dirt and rotten food goes when it leaves Miami???
I have to say Publix , like any commercial entity, CAN have a good point. I am so happy to have our Publix carry organic products that we could only get otherwise by going to the mainland. They also donate regularly to my mother's group ( snacks) and support other local groups all over the state.

I'm sure within the next five years, hospitals will install plasma screens on OB stirrups so that a formula commerical or Disney is the first thing your newborn sees.

So funny but also sadly close to the truth
