OK, probably no one will see this tucked away in Dental, but I had a thread in TAO and Irishmommy told me to continue it here (but she didn't move the thread, it is closed).

I woke up last night in the most excruciating pain of my life. Really. I was crying out and could hardly bear it. I had been taking ibuprophen for some mild tooth pain that comes and goes - I have a very bad cavity in a tooth that I have plans to have yanked. JaneS, if you're reading, I asked about my dental situation some time ago and you recommended yanking the tooth instead of a root canal, and that has been my plan. But I have a lot of dental issues and my dentist thought this could wait.

Guess not. I called the dentist in the middle of the night and she said it is pulpitis and called in an antibiotic and strong painkillers. So I have been taking them and I'm STILL in pretty bad pain.

My question is, do you think this can wait until Monday mornign when the dnetist opens? I am in such pain that I want to find another dentist who is open today, but my DH really wants me to wait until Monday to go to my dentist. I feel so bad, I cannot really take care of my DD right now, it's that bad. But I can't think straight, maybe it is best to wait.

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you already start on antibiotics?? If you did it usally takes a good 24 hours to help fight the infection. IF the antibiotic does start to help, you will prob. be ok until monday, but I would call them on monday and schedule and appt asap!! HTH Feel better soon!!

I know how horrible a toothache can be. All consuming.

Thank you hockeywife and ediesmom!! I'm hanging in there. It really sucks...we did try to line up a dentist for today but were unsuccessful. It was not easy to find out the information from our insurance company and by the time we got the phone numbers we needed, everyone was closed.

Thanks again for your posts. I hate feeling all drugged up.

The pain last night was so bad it scared me, though, so I will take being drugged up over that. Can't wait until they yank this horrid tooth!!

ediesmom, thank you so much for checking on me...it really means a lot.

I think I am feeling somewhat better. I have been taking the Tylenol with Codeine every 4 hours and could not possibly space it any further, but I just woke up and it has been 6 hours since the last pill, and the pain is OK!

I took another pill so I can stay on top of it.

Between the codeine and the antibiotic I feel wiped out, as if I'm really ill. But I am looking forward to tomorrow when I can say bye-bye to this tooth for good!!

How are you feeling? Been to the dentist yet?

Glad the abx and pain meds helped. Sleep is essential! Dental issues are so humbling, aren't they. Bring you right down to your knees.

ediesmom, thanks again! Got it yanked today. It sucked. But it's out!! HOORAY!!!!

2 wisdom teeth down, 2 to go (one still hasn't come in yet!). Grrr, dental issues are NOT FUN!

DON"T SUCK ON ANY STRAWS!!!!!

I had a tooth extracted years ago, and sucked on a straw, thiinking that to bypass empty space with the cold liquid would be good. NOT! I got what they call 'dry socket'. It hurt as much as the toothache.
