I hope this is the right forum! I have a lot of chard and I want to freeze some. Is it necessary to blanch it or can I just throw it in the freezer? I'll be using it w/i the month sauteed or in soups. TIA!
I think cook first then freeze it - pretty much the rule for cookable greens. If you've ever accidently frozen uncooked greens (of any sort, or lettuces) they are slimy and nasty if frozen raw. Maybe cook, spread it out on a cookie sheet to freeze, then break into chunks and bag it.
I've just tossed it in the freezer with ok results. Wash it, chop it and put in freezer bags. It turns out a lot like the frozen spinach that you can buy in the grocery store.
