My little guy is an intact almost-7 month old.

He's never done the "stereotypical" spray everyone around you when you change his diaper thing. He's peed on his dad a couple of times when he was getting a bath and then dried off, etc.....but he's never done the big arc-of-pee-right-in-your-face thing.

Is that normal? Everytime he seems to pee when his dipe isn't on, I just see a few drops on his thighs and the tip of his penis.

The ped. has never mentioned that he thinks anything is wrong, he's never been retracted, etc....

Am I just lucky, or just freaky for even wondering about it? LOL

Gosh this has to be the dumbest question ever but I am curious. I don't have a ton of experience with penises.

Nope, my son has never done that either.

My guy never did it either. His penis was always pointed down when I changed him. He did pee during changes a couple of times, but the pee always went down between his legs instead of into the air. It seemed like the weight of the foreskin kept the penis from popping up when he peed.

mine has, and he's intact. same with both of my nephews, they pee all over and are intact. I think it's just another thing that there is variation.

Mine once managed to do an arch so big it went from the changinging table all the way across the room to the crib (which of course was full of clean laundry I was folding.) We used to call it "his fountain immitation."

Exactly what I was going to say. I have 2, and actually wondered about this myself. But apparently, some little guys do, and some don't.

It definitely depends on the baby. I worked with triplets recently, two boys and a girl.

One boy did not pee far. It just dripped a little, didn't make a big mess.

The other boy was always spraying if you didn't watch him carefully, and constantly peeing on brother and sister. FUN TIMES.

But of course they were both circ-d.

My intact son is always pointing down between his legs and has never sprayed. My daughter, however, has peed so forcefully before it looked like old faithful. A perfect little fountain.

That's just what it seems like with my son too. Glad I'm not the only one who notices stuff like that. Everyone had warned us when we had a boy to look out for the pees....but my dd's peed on me more than he ever has, so far. He still has plenty of time, though. ROFL.

My DS is also intact and fountains quite frequently. His norm is up and over his shoulder, soaking his clothes, the wall, his special puppy... and sometimes Daddy!

I wonder if varying length of foreskins plays a part.

My DS is just over 6 months old & he's sometimes a sprayer. It happened much more as a newborn, he's covered poor DH a few times. I joke & call DH a jinx, because I've never had it happen, except twice & only when DH walked into the room. But now, even when it does happen, it usually goes downward & just gets his clothes & the diaper changing area under him wet. Maybe it depends on the baby, but I do know most other people with boys (all circed ), do it at basically every diaper change until close to a year, if not after.

My son never "sprayed" on us as a baby.
He's taken upon him self in the past year or so to retract himself when he pees. We never told him to do that. He now enjoys peeing all over the wall, the toilet seat, the shower curtain, etc, but all of that is deliberate! :

When he was a baby opening the diaper often caused an erection so if he did pee it was up!

DS has never sprayed/urinated out at us and yes I was told all those jokes about newborn boys, etc. His equipment is pretty long, and he's got a long foreskin so it seems that he's always pointing downward. I've seen some circ'd boys, including a newphew, and when I saw what it looked like (and the fact that they did point upward, like the remnant bunched up foreskin was pushing it up and not allowing to go down) I understood why moms of circ'd boys say it is a problem.

We've had discussions as well about this in some groups I am on, and some of the moms also stated (one had both intact/circumcised) that exposing the glans to air often feels uncomfortable to baby/young boys and can also cause them to pee when their diapers are taken off if they are circ'd. What is exposed is mucosal tissue, and it feels weird/uncomfortable when exposed.

DS is intact and "sprayed" a couple times when he was a newborn. Actually, he peed on one of the nurses right after he was born.

Then, when he was probably a few months old, he did the arc pee and started peeing in his own mouth!! My sister was the one changing his dipe (I was cooking dinner, I think) and I hear her in the next room squealing! Judging from the sound of said squeal, I thought she had come across a spider or roach or something. But I peeked around the corner and there she is, holding her hands out to catch DS's pee so it wouldn't get in his face. I don't know why she didn't just push his penis down or something, I guess that was the first thing she thought of? LOL Anyway, I think that's when I knew she was going to be alright babysitting him because any 17yo that would catch your baby's pee in their bare hands could handle anything.

(PS - that 17yo is now 20 years old with a 11mo intact little boy and she's a wonderful mama!)
