or on the edge...can't remember which one I got
:

Anyways, is it possible to do the patterns in reverse. For instance so many of them are written for the beginning of a project, i.e. to be worked "up". But I want to add something frilly at the end of some capris. Of course this is complicated because I'm also knitting in the round and not flat

should I just for get about the book and crochet and edging?

I've made one or two of the edgings work in reverse. You'd just take the gist of it- the shaping, if you're looking for frills- and knit the directions in the wrong order.
