So, my LMP was Oct. 3. So going by that, I'm just over 7 weeks. However, I didn't actually ovulate until Oct. 21 (CD19)--so shouldn't I calculate weeks from two weeks before ovulation (i.e., Oct. 7)? That would mean I won't actually be at 7 weeks until this Wednesday.

This whole "the first two weeks of pregnancy happen before the baby is conceived" is so confusing.

Another question--so is "conception" technically when you do it, or when the egg is fertilized? Because that egg was meeting 3-day-old sperm...

most women are unaware of ovulation, but fully aware of their period. the standard practice is to assume that all women have a 28 day cycle and they ovulate on the 14th day of that cycle, hence the extra two weeks.

obviously, if you know when you ovulated, you can much more accurately pinpoint your conception date. conception occurs on the day you ovulate, not necessarily the day you have sex.

if you are seeing an OB or a midwife who doesn't seem to trust your knowledge of your own body and they want to go strictly on your LMP and not your known date of conception, it is easier to just change the date of your LMP to two weeks before you know you conceived.

hope that helps!

Oh, geez, I can't really answer your question, but I can commiserate. I've got a short cycle and I just spent the best part of this afternoon trying to figure out what week and day I am exactly since my doc goes by my LMP and I'm going by FF's calculation based on my ovulation date. I think I'll leave my doc thinking his calculation: he's almost a whole week off and I'll just use it to keep from getting pressured to induce should I go over 40 weeks by FF's calculations.
So according to the doc's calc I'm 6w6d today, and FF says I'm 7w5d today. What I don't remember is if the week starts a 6w0d or 6w1d. I feel so silly!

All that said, your doc is probably also calculating based on LMP since most women have no idea when they ovulate. It seems to be standard procedure even if you shove your chart under their noses.

And my understanding of conception is the actual fertilization of the egg, not DTD right at ovulation.

Yeah, it's bizarre.

My LMP was October 13.

I got married October 24.

BFP November 19, after about a week's worth of symptoms I assumed were going-off-the-Pill stuff.

So, I'm around 6 weeks by the LMP method--I technically "got pregnant" before I got married, even though I am positive we didn't conceive before I got married.

ProtoLawyer, that is funny!

I would just count back 2 weeks from the date of ovulation.
