If you buy used diapers, does your DH know that you buy them?
Does he have a problem with this?
Would it be possible to buy used diapers and pass them off as new? What types would be easiest to do this with? What would clearly be impossible?

I am asking this because my DH has a real problem with getting and using used things. They're fine (usually) if they're from family, but anything outside the family - no way. Also, the very thought of used diapers - essentially used underwear - would send him completely over the edge.

Personally, I'm fine with it. This is what diaper services do - distribute clean, used diapers. My sister used my cousin's used diapers, but this was 30 years ago, and I'm certain that they were extensively bleached, not only between children, but between uses!

Am I nuts to even consider it? Or could I get some by him?

Would I really be saving that much money to make a huge difference?

i agree w/ your DH - purchase new ... besides it's not recomended to bleach the cute sewn dipes anyway and there are some yukkies that can lurk in dipes mostly yeasts i think

diaper services are flat prefolds and those are cheap

I wouldn't go behind dh's back. I'd explain that *I* was ok with it, but if he is not, I would respect that. I certainly wouldn't want him to do something *I* perceived as harmful or gross to dd without consulting me, or worse, going behind my back. I'd tell him we could save some money buying used, but if he's not ok with that, I'd need X amount of $ to buy all new. For the cost of used fitteds or AIO's you can get new prefolds and covers.

Me and DF are both ok with buying used dipes. We would love to have new ones that we know have never had a yeasty baby or a nasty diaper rash/infection in them, but we cant afford that. He knows my diaper washing routine and knows that if I even think a diaper isnt clean it gets rewashed. I always wash them when we get them, the go in with the dirties and get a full wash, and then get check for smellies and what not before being put away.

Personally I wouldnt go behind his back either. Coming to a comprimise might be a better solution. Buy new AIO;s and fitteds but get used prefolds, because in a worst case scenario you can atleast bleach the prefolds once if need be.

I buy used whenever I can.
If my underwear were 25 bucks a pair, I might get those used too!
Not to mention the fact that all used baby clothes have seen a fair amount of poop.
My dp has expressed that he thought it was gross, but I bought what we needed and could afford, and since I do most of the laundry/ dipe changes anyways ( : ) I went with the cheaper option to get more dipes, therefore less stress for me. I don't think he really cared though. If he was really adamant about it, I'd let him be in charge of the diapering.

I have bought used covers which don't bother him. Although I am a sit on the public toilet seat kind of gal (unless obviously gunky of course) and have never asked about used diapers. He hasn't said either. Diapers are not his favorite subject.

I wanted to add: I wouldn't lie to DH about diapers anyway. It isn't worth a couple of bucks to decieve my husband.

DH does not want used dipes, and I guess I'd prefer new as well(and I am a tight wad). Plus this is our first child so I figure if I get new they should last through more of our kids(we're ok with our own used ones of course). So I've went with prefolds and covers which aren't too expensive and then I've gotten some seconds of some pockets and a few full priced ones. I haven't bought any huge stashes cause I just want to try one of alot of things. I just cut corners wherever I can, shipping, inserts, seconds, etc. I could diper easily for $100, but so far I've probably spent $200, but that's including a pail, liners, extra laundry basket, 2 dz pf, 4 PUL covers, 2 wool soakers, 5 pockets, 1 AIO, snappis, pins... $ goes along ways with cd, especially if you can use them on the next baby and don't become a connoisseur

I have found the mothers selling their diapers on diaperswappers to be more than honest about the condition of their diapers -- I've bought "used" diapers that were listed as "like new" and honestly you can't tell that they are not new.

Plus there are plenty of diapers listend on diaperswappers that have ~never~ been worn...they are still priced less than brand new.

I'd go poke around there a bit before rushing out to buy new diapers...you can find some great deals from Moms who decided not to CD or bought dipes that their children never grew into... plenty of "new" stuff at used prices.

my DP doesn't know when i buy the dipes used but i am not sure if it would make a difference anyway. the biggest price difference IME happens when you are going for fitteds, wool, or other custom stuff, not the prefolds.

On eBay you can also find new dipes on sale. I found my dozen Kissaluvs 0 at a good price. I have to admit it took me awhile to get used to used things or clothes as my mom always bought things brandnew. Now I don't mind used clothes, but dh and I agree that used underwear and cloth diapers are a no-no. I could go as far as *maybe* cloth diaper covers.

my hubby knows and doesn't care...he might have though it was weird at first, but if he is willing to pay more for new, then that's cool too, I guess. LOL

I don't think it's ever come up, but I don't imagine he'd have a problem with it. The ones I buy are all in great shape, and he's all for saving a buck.

If it bothered my hub that badly, I'd probably show him a cost comparison. If he'd rather go new, and is willing to foot the bill, I'd have no problems going that way.

That said, my hub is fine with it, and I don't bleach anything (don't even have bleach in my house). I'm confident that my wash routine will conquer anything that could possibly survive the trip through the postal service. Some of our favorite dipes have come to us used. When pennies are being pinched so hard they scream, we couldn't afford my fave wahm brands straight from the wahm.

If you buy used diapers, does your DH know that you buy them? yep

Does he have a problem with this? nope. we're both cheap

I'm not a big fan of lying to your husband. However, if you don't think he's interested in diaper stuff, I'd just buy them without discussing the matter. If he said "NO USED DIAPERS" I wouldn't buy them but to not buy them because you think he wouldn't like it... well... his ignorance is your bliss.

When I first mentioned buying used diapers DH was a little surprised, but didn't have a problem with it. If I can't get a used diaper clean enough to use on our kids then I wouldn't be able to get a new one clean enough to use past the first time.

OK, did that make any sense at all?
