My dad has Type II diabetes, and I can't find much info about whether that raises my risk of GD. With this new passing out phase of my pregnancy, I know I can't fast before the standard glucose screen, and I'm trying to figure out if it's even something I need to do. Can anyone weigh in?

My dad and ALL his siblings except one (and she's passed on now so we'll never know if she was to develop it as well) have type II diabetes. I am overweight as well. so i was totally scared about developing this. they started testing me early. first one was fine. then came the one at the regualr time and i failed it. had to go through the 3 hour one. passed with flying colors. i say watch the sugars (which i haven't been
: ) and relax. i can't advise you whether or not to take it, i just went ahead and did it. you may find that all is well.

My grandma had diabetes ( she was 200 pounds overweight and had other problems as well) and my OB insisted that I take the test early. I was supposed to take it at 7 weeks, but didn't get around to it until 11 weeks. So, big surprise, I have GD. If your father has diabetes, they will want you to test for GD.
