I've been getting my diapers prepared for the new baby and I found out I have an already opened pack (but never used) of gerber three ply prefolds. They came with a box of hand-me-down clothes but weren't used for anything. They are not the diaper service quality ones but the kind you would buy at Target.

Are they any good at all? I can see an obvious difference in quality from the CPFs I have washed and the gerbers. But if I can use them to supplement our stash, I would love to.

Do they make good inserts for pockets? Would I have to double them up to use them with a cover?

Thanks!
I found that they worked best as dust rags. Mine never fluffed at all and were never absorbant or soft at all.

I have some that I use to line the diaper if I have to use rash cream. I don't care if they get ruined, so I don't mind them having ointment on them. They don't add much absorbency, but you could think of them as liners.

I've been told they work fair doubled (ups the layers to 4-6-4, so not as good as 4-8-4) and they would probably work doubled at least for the newborn stage, maybe even lomger if you don't have a heavy wetter and change often (which should be done anyways). Granted, they won't be as soft, but I wouldn't give up on them yet!

As "oh no, all the diapers are in the wash" diapers they work. Just not very absorbant IMO.

I'm confused. I bought my diaper service Gerber diapers at Target. I also bought my premiums there - also good. Do you mean the Gerber birdseye? I have seen them there as well, but not purchased them. I've heard that other brands of birdseye diapers are better, so I'm holding off on those. (Plus, I already have 72 diapers. Ahem.)

I don't know one kind from another in the gerber brand.... i.e. birdeye, dsq, etc. But the ones that worked for us (until I bought cpf) were the ones with blue stitching around the outside. LOL.

If they were those, I'd use them occasionally.

I found some gerber newborn prefolds yesterday, (which means I could have CD'd from the start! omgosh ) I think they were given to me as spit up rags or something. I must have used them a lot because they are all fluffy and absorbant. They're not white ones, they are patterned, like striped and pink flowers, and definitely prefolds. I laid one in a pocket diaper, tri-folded, for extra absorbancy for bedtime last night (with a regular insert in the pocket), and it was very puffy and very full in the morning.
