I currently have atoothache starting and I am torn with how I want to handle getting it filled or not. I am 12 weeks pregnant. My toothache has a former mercury filling in it. I don't know if I should just take antibiotics for three days to get rid of the infection and then wait until after I have the baby or should I get it filled now and not use the antibiotics. Which is the worse case scenrio? I heard the mercury from the original filling could really cause some damage to the baby. But, what about the antibiotics? Help!! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/confused.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Confused">:

Mercury is far more toxic than antibiotics. I would definitely take the antibiotics. And I would not get another Mercury filling. Under no circumstances would I let them drill into a amalgam filling while I was pregnant or nursing, though they do off-gas while you are chewing and stuff, I think the risk during removal is greater.
