Hello,
I am hoping someone can tell me if what I'm experiencing is normal or not. I gave birth 9 days ago and had some tears stitched (but am not sure to what degree I tore). My swelling went down over a period of 5 or 6 days, and then I started experiencing more pain. For the past few days, it has been too uncomfortable to walk or sit, and I am only pain free when I am lying down. I went to Urgent Care last night because I was getting worried, and was told it "may" be the beginning of an infection and was given a prescription for antibiotics. I have no fever, discharge, or abdominal pain. One side of my perineum hurts when I touch it, and seems to be swollen. I don't want to take antibiotics for what may be normal healing, but I also don't want to prolong this state. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

It is really hard to know. It is good that you don't have a fever and I see why you are confused. My bottom was really sore but when I layed down and took the pressure off that seemed to help.

Maybe you are not resting enough?

I would just take the antibiotics. A uterine infection is nothing to mess around with. Be sure to take lots of good bacteria during and after the medication.

Did you deliver @ the hospital?

Pain decreases with healing, it should not increase as the days go by.

I also think you need to call your HCP. If you take the antibiotics make sure to follow the directions and complete the duration prescribed.

Rest and take care of yourself.

Thank you for your replies. I really hate the thought of taking antibiotics while breastfeeding, but I guess stocking up on probiotics will help. I'm definitely not doing too much, as I've been pretty much lying down for 3 days now, and it isn't getting any better. I'm also okay as long as I'm lying down. The minute I get up the pain starts. I delivered at home (although I had planned a hospital birth). My midwife is pretty new, and didn't really know what to suggest (other than going to a doctor). I'll call an ob/gyn on Tuesday and see if I can be seen. For once I'm cursing a long weekend! It does help (and suck) to hear that this doesn't sound normal. Thanks again.

Hi Heather,
Did you tell Urgent Care that you are breastfeeding?

Just double check on www.Kellymom.com that the type of antibiotics prescribed are the ones okay to take when breastfeeding, most are fine, but you want to double check
.

Remember that you getting rid of an infection and feeling better is important!

Take care!
