Hi there... I need some advise. I have a 5 week old infant who just doesn't poop alot. She has a bowel movement every 2 - 5 days. It has been like this since birth. Aside from her mecomium poops she initially went 14 days without pooping. I was in consultation with a lactation specialist and a pediatrician who both seem to think it is okay - primarily because the baby is not in distress, and she is gaining plenty of weight.<br><br>
So.... if she goes more than 2 days she seems to strain alot periodically throughout the day and night and then at some point just poops.<br><br>
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and/or if anyone has some advise to get her to poop more!<br><br>

I would recommend an adjustment- go to a chiropractor who has experience doing physical (not energetic) adjustments on newborns. If your were in Tucson I would recommend going to an osteopath T Cissler<br>
if you tell her it is for a new baby she gets them in quick but the cost is about $100. but usually works fast for a baby<br>

After having two babies that had a BM almost after every feeding, (breastfeeding, of course) I was totally freaked out when my third baby would go a week or more without a BM. As you have heard from your healthcare professionals, it is completely normal. Chiropractic adjustments, as suggested by mwherbs could help, but I would also recommend that you make sure that you are getting plenty of water and an all-around good diet for breastfeeding. I think that one of the problems with my baby was that I was not taking care of myself like I should've been. Remember that your body just went through months of strain and hard work followed by a marathon. Allow your body to recover and replenish your stores with good nutrients. BTW--isn't it sort of funny how baby poop can get us mothers so obsessed? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

my dd is the same and has been sence she was born.not to much to worry about i have heard because bm is so easily absorbed and has so little waste.i also so cut out almost all dairy which seemed to help some.now that she is seven months and has some solids in her diet she goes more often but it seems to be harder on her system so i have added more fruit and this seems to have solved the problem. i wouldn't worry to much about it if she seems fine, i have talked to lot's of mom's with babies with the same issue that at some point works itself out, but sometimes it does take a change in mamas diet to help.
