Wasn't sure what thread to add this to so I made a new one...

I'm wondering, at how many weeks after ovulation can your typical home pregnancy test detect enough pregnancy hormone to come up positive instead of a false negative?

I will be VERY grateful to anyone who can give a definitive answer on that one... I'm recovering from Depo and am using FAM to chart my cycle, but I don't have a recognizable cycle yet. I get fertile-like symptoms and ovulation-like symptoms (temp spikes, possible ovulation pain) but no period, no spotting, and only negative pregnancy tests. It's now been 3 weeks since the time my chart looked like I ovulated, and I need to know if I can go back to "pregnancy-unsafe" things like caffinated tea and "not recommedned for pregnancy" herbal suppliments to clear the remaining Depo out of my system. Theoretically a test has a good chance of working around 2 weeks after ovulation but if anyone knows when a negative means DEFINITELY not pregnant rather than a false negative, I will appreciate you forever.... many thanks

I would say (but I am no specialist) that 3 weeks is definately enough time to rule out pregnancy however I just saw a chart in the Ovusoft chart gallery where a woman didn't get a positive until she was 22 DPO - she had tested at 18 DPO and got nothing. Do you have a chart we could look at? If you're taking your temperatures, do they appear to be above your cover line still?

If you want to be absolutely certain (if that's ever possible), get a blood test at your doctor's office.

Good luck!

I'm one of those women who didn't get a positive test until 22dpo and 23dpo. However, it was a VERY faint positive and when I went to my doctor's office on a Thursday to test they just gave me the same urine test instead of a blood test and told me to come back on Monday.
:

Well, on Friday I miscarried. That was confirmed at my Monday appointment. And now my NEW doctor believes I have progesterone deficiency - which may have contributed to the m/c.

So, I would agree with Maman - INSIST on a blood test. If you are pregnant, you can know for sure and also know if your progesterone and Hgc levels are on track.

It depends on the sensitivity of the test
I got a faint + 9 dpo with my youngest... One of my good friends was 21 dpo before she got her 1st faint +...

I say get a blood test to be certain
But my thoughts are that you are still adjusting to coming off the depo, but am no expert by any means
Good luck!

Hmm money is tight and I'd rather not pay for a doctor visit unless absolutely necessary... Would you guys say that if I get a negative home preg test at 30 days after ovulation it's definitely a true negative?

(My temps were around 99.0 for the first month after Depo, and for the two months since then they're been between 98.6 and 97.9. I don't have a clear coverline but those temps are all within the pregnancy range. Hence the confusion.)
