Question about 'trimming' VB's

429 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Sophiasmomma
Hi- I have the VB home pattern, and am a fairly new to sewing. A few months ago I made 6 med. VB's for my dd and am now getting ready to make 6 Larges- I have seen a few mentions of "trimming the stride" to get a better fit. Do you find it really makes a difference? I have everything cut out already, just wondering where and how much I would cut to take some off.

Thanks

My only advice would be to play with it a bit. What I take off may not be what you'd take off. I think it all depends on the child. Good luck though.
You might want to check out this thread before you do any cutting.

Basically, it comes down to the fit you want that works for you.

Thank You!! This is exactly the info I was looking for. I do have a few Harleyz which are *so* narrow, and they work great for my dd, so I was curious about making the VB's more narrow. I think I will just start with a normal one from the pattern and go from there.

Thanks again

I trimmed my VB pattern by cutting along the elastic line around the legs. It took off enough bulk, but not too much absorbancy. HTH!

I find them to be very trim through the crotch anyway. But I had to alter the pattern because at each appropriate weight for size stage, it was always way too long in the rise for Eliza. I take a good chunk out at the back of the crotch area to decrease the height of the back.
My DD is soo tiny that I trim the crotch a ton. I then add an extra layer in the soaker(Im using hemp) and an extra layer in the booster as well to make up for the absorbancy issues from taking so much material away in the stride.
