Question for Evenflo Triumph Owners

678 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Still_Snarky
My 2 year old is about 24 pounds and 34 inches. I know that she'll never outgrow the weight limit but I'm concerned about her height (the limit in the manual says 40") or rather shoulder height. Is it more important to note where her shoulders are in regards to the straps? We're already on the highest harness slot and she's got a looong torso (and thus high shoulders) like her mama. Any info/input very much appreciated!

I read my owner's manual recently because I was worried about DS, and mine said that the height limit is when their ear is at the top of the back of the seat...we've got plenty of room ,and DS is about 36 inches tall. I'd check your manual too though, just in case it's a different model.
It's a very short seat. My dd outgrew hers by height at 2.5 years of age. I know that the shoulders must be at or below the top slots for forward facing. You can double check your manual as sometimes car seat manufacturers change the wording from time to time.
Funny I found that to be one of the tallest seats....higher than the Roundabout. My DS could still fit in it heightwise at over 40 inches. The height limits are always guidelines. If the shoulders are below the slots and their head fits at the top according to the manufacturer's instructions, you should be fine. "They" say that growth at this age is more in the legs than the torso, so you might be fine for longer than you think. If you need to to mover her up soon because she does outgrow it, the Cosco Apex is a good choice, it goes to 65lbs and and has a fourth set of slots and is about $130. There is always the Marathon too but it is pricier and does not convert into a booster.
Thanks for the input. When I was buckling her in yesterday I took note of where her shoulders and the top of her head hit on the seat. She still has a couple inches at the shoulders but it's getting close at the top! Hopefully, as True_Blue mentioned, she'll be growing in the legs for a while now!

Hopefully she grows in the legs! AJ is almost 3 now and I'm not sure his legs will ever get longer. lol He has the longest torso ever though and would have another inch or 2 in a Triumph. The problem w/ this seat is mainly you can't rf in it to the full 30# b/c of the short back.
Okay, had my dh look at her in the seat and he thinks (and I agree) that she's too tall for the seat. Her head is just too close to the top. Now what?

I have a costco alpha omega and dd is 20M and 34 and fits really well in her seat..thats an option too..I know some stores have the seats outside the box you can go and just plop her in a few
My dd is 26 months and outgrew hers about 2 mos ago. She is 90% for height an d 26 pounds. Her head still fit in nicely but her shoulders were too high for the straps. I moved her to a 5pt harness booster seat.
If the tips of her ears are level with the top of the shell, the seat is outgrown. While the triumph does have high harness slots, the actual seat back is kind of short.

You could get a combination seat, like the Evenflo Generations. They are much taller and would allow her a longer time before she outgrows it.

Sounds like Parker (she's weighing in at a whopping 23 pounds) only in reverse! Her shoulders still had a little room but her head was way too close. So, we did what you did and went and got her a 5pt harness booster (the Eddie Bauer Summit Booster Car Seat) this afternoon. She loves it. She had started to complain about her back hurting and I think it was because of the curve of the Truimph. The child has fantastic posture and the new seat allows her to sit up really straight!

above the ears can safely be above the seat's top. The top must be level with the tips of her ears or above, but once her ears are over the back of the seat, she is ready to move out.

Hmm, I wonder if that varies by carseat because the manual says the top of the head must not be within one inch of the top.

That's when rfing, which IMO she should still be.
When ffing, you can use the Triumph till the straps are below the shoulders or the the tips of the ears are even w/ the shell.
