Hi,

I'm thinking about traveling to Australia and I was wondering if Australia has any child car safety laws? My son will only be a year old when we go and I was wondering if I needed to bring my infant car seat along.

Thanks,
Christine

Yes, and your seat won't comply with them. The closest you'll get is with a Britax (Australian name is safe n sound), but they don't have the right crotch strap or rebound bar rear facing.

I think most states have exemptions for taxis, but I know that some cab companies have car seats.

However, if your baby is over 12 kg, you won't be able to put them rear facing in an Australian seat, so I personally would choose to take my britax, tether it to the back of the car as Australian law states and cop the $300 fine if you get caught.

If the fine is $300, I'd probably consider buying an affordable Australian seat. My friends are going at Christmas time and will be doing that instead of lugging their seat with them.
