I’ve got a question regarding hemp seeds.

Can they be baked?

At the moment I only use them in my granola adding the hemp seeds after baking the granola along with sprouted flax seeds.

The reason I am asking is I would like to add them to baked cookies for my son who does not like granola.

I read somewhere that heating flax seed actually makes them toxic, but I never heard anything about hemp seeds. In fact on the packet it says they can be added to baked goods.

Do any of you mama’s know anything about this?
I thank you all in advance!

I've baked with mine, and I also bake with my flax seeds all the time as well. To my knowledge, it is safe. Maybe you read not to heat flax OIL, as that will turn it rancid.

I think the omega's don't hold up past a certain temp (I think my package says 325F for baking?), but still a good source of other protein.

My concern is that the hemps seeds will become toxic or rancid as flax seed can when they are heated up.
I am planning on substituting hemp seeds for nuts in a cookie recipe along with raisons, oats and a few chocolate chips..... I'll bake them at 275

baking is fine as far as toxins, don't know about whether nutritional value would decrease or no. I've bought cake/brownie mixes with hempseeds in there.

I bake with mine ALL THE TIME! I put them into muffins/pancakes/apple pies...seriously add them to everything. Not to mention sprinkle them on top of pasta, soup, ect

From what the farmer told me they do not go rancid when cooked, though they do loose some nutrition..which is the same with almost everything cooked
