I usually use the dryer to dry my diapers but am wanting to cut back on my dryer usage. (One benefit, I hope, will be that the elastic in my fitted dipes will last longer.) I washed a batch of diapers two days ago and hung them on my drying rack. They hung there overnight and were still wet in the morning, so I put the rack outside in the sun. They did get dry, but they were incredibly stiff and not soft at all.

The hemp and organic cotton fitteds were very stiff, and the organic velour fitteds were downright scratchy. Would it be different if they were hung on a line in the sun right out of the washer (instead of hung over the rack?) Or is this just they way they'll be when air-dried? What are some remedies? (Short time tumbling in the dryer afterward, maybe? No heat, low heat, what?)

Her Swaddlebees OV fitteds are always so comfy that we grab them first, but I can't imagine putting them on her like this. Any feedback?

When I used to line dry diapers I would let them dry in the sun, and then I would toss them in the dryer for about 10min to fluff them. It does help a lot to give them a little dryer time.

busy mom-that sounds like a great idea!

amyc- i dry everthing on a rack in my loft in front of (huge) north facing windows (which i guess counts as "sunning" since i never have stains). yes, they are stiff but thats all my dd knows and they are not so rough that they irritate her skin at all. BUT when i go to my moms, I'm like "wow! SOOO soft and fluffy in the dryer!"

i use mostly ipfs and some random fitteds. the covers are fine. hemp--VERY stiff. i only use these (they are thin doublers) under another layer so they arent against my babes skin. I think fluffing would be great!

as for drying time, i just wash a small batch each a.m. and hang for 24 hrs. So each a.m. i do a wash, and collect the dipes from the day before.

hth.

I concur! Great idea! Yeah, I would let them tumble for about 10 minutes on high heat. I think it's really the heat that makes them soft. I don't have a dryer line yet, so I'm still using the dryer to dry everything but my lonely pocket, the covers, and my two AIO's
