Okay, *shhh* I have been using CHEAP doublers (EFB brand at BRU). They work OK, but I really need something better in my pocket dipes. Which is more absorbant???

Hemp/Cotton Fleece
Hemp/Cotton Jersey Knit
Hemp/Cotton - French Terry????

And how many layers would you sugguest? My baby isn't a super soaker, and I want them TRIM!

I am desperate!

TIA!

There is some formula that I don't know, but they each have different absorbencies. I know jersey is the least absorbent. I *think* terry is next and fleece is the most absorbent, which is why so many hemp diapers are made from the hemp fleece.

I like either terry or fleece, fleece is thicker, it is softer at first, but gets stiffer more and faster, terry is more stretchy and not nearly as 'stiff' after washings.

Now so you know the differences in texture:

Fleece is like a thick sweatshirt material, think of your nice thick sweatshirt, it is fuzzy on one side and soft on the other, that is fleece, and it is nice but does get harder (like a sweatshirt)

Knit terry is like a baby towel, terry on one side (small loops not like a regular bath towel) and knit on the other, nice and super stretchy stuff, absorbant as the fleece, it isn't the same material really but the same weight fabric, so yes it is just as absorbant. However it is trimmer and has a more drapey feel than the fleece.

Jersey is like a t-shirt material, it works well enough but you need a lot of layers to make it absorbant enough to work as a diaper. However it is cheaper, but you use more layers of the jersey to get the same absorbancy of the fleece or the terry. IMO it is a waste of time to use Jersey, by the time you get enough layers your not any trimmer than the terry and the time spent cutting all those extra peices is wasted along with the difficulty in keeping them aligned to sew them up!
anyway my opinion only of course, some people love it! ~

you are correct that the KNIT terry is not the same material as the fleece.. but the FRENCH terry (which is what she asked about in the OP) is
to make hemp fleece the "hemp powers that be" take hemp french terry and brush the loops. the hemp knit terry is a completely different fabric....you are correct it is more like what you would think of when you think about a baby towel.

so many hemps.. so little time
