Okay, so I have to work around the heartburn, nausea and throwing up, and various other discomforts for this to happen....but my dp and I are still dtd at least 2 or 3 times a week. This is the good news. The problem is that I only have a short period before I start to get a huge stomach cramp. It definitely stays around for several minutes thwarting much movement...When I !*o*! it cramps up, too and usually i have to lie on my side and cradle my tummy for support for several minutes afterward. Intuitively I feel like the babe is fine, it's just me.

It's very worth the discomfort to me to maintain this level of intimacy, but I'm wondering if this is unusual, or if anyone has any suggestions to avoid this body-response!

Orgasms always cause BHs for me, so it makes a lot of positions uncomfortable. We have found certain positions are much easier than others when I can't move because I don't have to move as much.

This is totally normal and harmless for the baby by the way. In fact, it is great for your cervix to keep an active sex life. :)

Well we aren't doing it as often as you. I have some, um, pelvic congestion, and it gets painful pretty quickly. But yeah, with this one and my daughter, I got braxton hicks afterwards for a bit.

I would just keep doing what you are doing aftewards, maybe have some water, lay down, and allow your uterus to relax a bit.

Yeah, I also have been getting BH/crampiness after sex. I think it's fine and totally normal--if anything it is probably helping things overall. I'll take every extra millimeter of dilation I can get before active labor starts :p

Is it the position you are in that is causing the cramp. I don't know how to explain it any other way so I apologize first but doing it "doggie style" is the only way that is totally comfortable for me. I know the intimacy factor isn't totally there because we aren't face to face but we are still enjoying it. :)

It might be the position....I'm on top. The cramping is way different from Braxton Hicks in sensation for me, though. I get BH all the time, and barely feel them, just that tightening sensation. This cramping is way sharper, like a cramp you get from swimming, maybe.

Thx for your replies...I know it's a weird topic for chatting, but I don't know where else to pose this type of question...it's not a good one for facebook, ykwim?

I get the same thing...it's not the position for me. It feels like the kind of cramp you get when you exercise too soon after eating. So, in my case it's the exercise/movement factor.

We've had a really hard time finding a good position. Everything we've tried (and trust me, we've tried plenty) is uncomfortable in some way (and some are even painful) We've had to find other ways to satisfy our physical intimacy (and his physical needs).

I've been very *ahem* active this pregnancy. I just can't get enough. Pretty much any position is still working for us right now, and I generally don't get very strong contractions from sex or orgasm. The only thing that pretty much always causes cramping is nursing my 3 year old. I have started counting to 10, and that's all the time she can nurse. Actually, just thinking about sex gives me more cramping than actually doing it. I stopped for a while (ok, like 4 days ;) because I was worried about preterm labor, but I have pretty much decided that we have been so active all along, it probably won't bring bad things if we continue while we feel like it. I have only felt like sex had an impact once, and that was when we went for a long walk the morning after DTD. I hope this interest sticks around after the baby comes!

Sooo jealous! I've been on "pelvic rest" since July and won't be given the all clear until the 6 week PP check (at the earliest)

BUT with my last pregnancy we found that Dr. Ruth's side lying position was awesome. I'm not sure if you can find a link to it online, I have the "Pregnancy Guide for Couples" book and that's where we found the illustration.

DDCC kind of- due Feb 2nd

I get an excrutiating muscle cramp in my lower stomach that feels like my stomach muscles are ripping apart. I think what you're describing must be a similar type situation and not contractions. In my case it is unfortunate because now DH is afraid to DTD. He thinks it's not worth it if it causes me so much pain. Guys just don't get it. I really need his affection even more now that I'm in the home stretch. When I try to just kiss and cuddle he feels like I want it to go furthur so he shys away! We sure do put up with a lot to bring these babies into the world!

trekkingirl....our due dates are really 5 days apart, I'm straddling ddc's.

you're describing it well....I think I feel the same thing. My dp doesn't shy away, but he's patient enough to wait or stop when it happens. Sorry you're experiencing the brakes with your dh!

Questiongal, I'll look for that! Sorry to hear abt mandated pelvic rest!

And as for 'doggie style'...it doesn't do it for me or him....not enough face, and too much for the 'roids.

I get a crampy feeling that is different from the braxton hicks feeling after the o. I'm way too sensitive for anything but woman on top at this point. Doggy style is painful to me.

I get these too, completely different feeling from BH. Sharp pains low down on either side of my abdomen. They've been happening after O for a few months now, and they always go away w/i 5 min so I've just been ignoring them...

Side-lie/spoon position works really well for us, I'm finding doggy a little too deep. Highly recommend for those who are uncomfortable. We're able to halfway face each other which is nice as I'm definitely craving the intimacy these days.

I think the shape of my vagina changed after the birth of DS...sex was never the same. Of course, I did the typical hospital lithotomy position so it doesn't surprise me at all.

I get this exact same thing but only when I'm on top. Feels just like you described, like a runners cramp, on my right side usually. Takes a few minutes after to resolve. I always get super strong BH after orgasms, but like you, this is different. I figure it's positioning and the muscles I'm using that I don't usually use in other situations :)

We are down to doggie style too. Its not my orgasm so much as his that gives me cramps. I had him stop doing inside me, due to the ctx, but he didn't hold off this time. I already have horrible braxton hicks all the time, maybe this will help me along a little in the way of dilation. And as we get even closer, I'm jumping him every day for that help!

My midwife told me lots of sex and orgasms. I have never had it practically prescribed before. So I am all over my husband all the time. Not necessarily because I feel intimate but more that I am getting anxious to meet my baby!

I had this a lot during my last pregnancy. This time we aren't dtd so much, and on the rare occasion we do it hasn't been as bad. With my first two babies I didn't have this problem at all. In fact with DS1 we dtd five times the day he was born (my husband had been out of town for a few weeks, this wasn't normal even back then-- It did result in labor though ). I have always heard doggie style is best but I am just too uncomfortable trying to pull that off when I am this far along. For now I just put a pillow under my tummy for support (so sexy I know) and keep things kind of slow. The BH still happen though.
