questions about galactosemia?

My dd was diagnosed with galactosemia when she was a couple months old.
She is 3 now, and she has had a lactose-free diet since she was diagnosed. (including no breastmilk) well, my question is does it ever go away? CAN it ever go away? It's been a while since we tried, but sometimes we would give her some whole milk just to see what happened and she would inmediately either start with diarrea or throw it up, and for this reason we haven't tried in a long time. I gave her a very little amount of breastmilk a couple months ago and nothing happened right after she drank it, but a couple hours later she started with runny poops (it was only like 1 oz. of breastmilk, this is why I figured she only got a runny poop and not the explosive reaction she usually gets) I asked my ped. and he said she will never be able to digest lactose. because she doesn't have the lactase enzime and she will never have it.
but I read a while ago that there is a way for their bodies to produce lactase, even if artificially. is there any truth to this? I would really like to give my ebm to my dd in her cereal.. she asks me for it!

I am sure this is a question for a gastro-enterologist, not bfing mommies or a pediatrician, l~m~b. Can you get a ref to one?
Yes, I'm sure you are right but I asked in case there was a mother here that had a child with this illness.
Hi. I seem to remember an article on this In the "New Beginnings " magazine from La leche. Maybe you can do a search? I just looked thru my old ones twice for the article and cant find it. sorry.
