Hi. I wanted the advice of moms here because I plan to nurse as long as my daughter wants and I respect everyone here for doing the same. I have a couple of questions.

First of all, she basically only nurses now before naps, bedtime and during the night. I offer it to her while she is awake but she rarely takes it. Were any of your 14 month olds like this? Is this most likely a phase or are some babies like this? Thank goodness she can only fall asleep nursing because otherwise I would be worried about her weaning earlier than I would like.

Second, she often still nurses during the night like a newborn...all night long. She usually goes through phases where she will nurse 2-3 times per night for 5 minutes and go right back to sleep. Then she will change and nurse every hour for quite a while. Usually this phase lasts a week and then she goes back to less frequently. Well, she has been nursing hourly for 3 weeks now. I wonder if this is because she is nursing less during the day but she will not nurse more during the day. I do not feel the need to nighttime wean her but any tips on how to cut it back to 2-3 times on a regular basis....even better maybe once to twice during the night? Oh...we are cosleeping.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. Thanks so much!

my nursling is 16 mo. she nurses at night. sometimes it's 5-10 minutes a couple times a night. other times it's for much longer and more frequent. i'd chalk it up to those big molars making their way in. we have 3 out of 4 started now.

Thanks. It just helps to know that we are not the only ones going through this. Unfortunately, I cannot say it is due to teething because my daughter has been like this since day 1. At least the past two nights have been a little better. She nursed 3 times for about 10 minutes each and went right back to sleep after. I will enjoy it while it lasts because it is only a matter of time before she wakes more frequently.

Well, this may not help very much, but it sounded like you were describing my 14-month-old DS exactly!!! He's so distracted/busy during the day, and then will nurse ALL NIGHT. My other kids went through phases like that, too. So - it will pass, eventually. Sorry, not much you can do about it - I know this may not be too helpful but I thought I'd at least let you know you're not alone!

My 14 mo dd nurses all night long like yours. Definitely goes in spurts, though, sometimes longer some nights than others (and yes, sometimes hourly). I suspect teething pain as well. My dd is very distracted during the day, but still manages to latch on to take "sips" many times a day. But if she were nursing more infrequently, I wouldn't think much of it. Sounds like your situation is very normal :
