I am cooking chicken for dinner tonight and and I was going to try it in the crockpot (I've never cooked whole chicken before) but I have no idea what to do with it or what to put it with it or how much liquid. I have a pretty big crockpot - I don't know if that makes a difference. How long do I cook it? Thanks!

Hi<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br>
I have done this once. it worked really well. Just make sure it fits well, and you can stuff the middle with the usual-whatever you like, oil or butter and herbs on top, etc. You can also throw in a ton of unpeeled garlic to spread on french bread with the chicken. Just slow cook all day and turn it up to high until you think it looks done. It's all about how much time you have.Mine didn't take too long on just high.

i do this a lot <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"><br><br>
you can stuff the chicken with whatever, if you want to. throw it in the crock pot. rub it with oil or butter (even that's not necessary), add maybe a 1/2c liquid (broth, water) to the bottom, spice the sucker up, and let it sit on low all day. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"> a 3.5lb chicken takes about 8 hours on low, 3.5 hours on high. if there's room you can even add veggies to it, and they'll be steamed-like by dinnertime. It's SUPER good!

I put potatoes/carrots in the bottom, chix on that, spice on chix, turn on low for 8ish hrs. I don't usually add extra liquid, but you could add no more than 1/2 cup broth/wine/water.

Season the chicken like you normally would for baking or roasting. I usually put seasoned butter under the skin. Put in the crockpot. I usually add an onion, apple, and orange. Turn the crockpot on for 4 hours (mine has a timer, not heat setting). The only gotcha is that the chicken has to be fresh or completely thawed. I do not add any extra liquid because then I cannot make good gravy to go with the potatoes.

I usually season mine and add it to the crockpot with some water and some bullion. I add the veggies 1/2 way through. I cook in on low all day, but 6-7 hours is usually enough on low, even if frozen.

Good ideas and I've used most of these ideas. They all work great.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/coolshine.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="sunshine">
