I finally got a crockpot! I want to use it for dinner tonight but the recipe that I want to make and have all the ingredients for takes 10-12 hrs on low- will it still work if I turn it up to medium and cook it for a shorter time? It involves dried beans if that makes a difference.

The difference between high and the other settings on my crock pot are huge.
After a lesson learned (twice) I always cook beans on high.

Thanks for your response! So, you don't think beans will cook on low? Now I'm afraid to try the recipe since it says 10-12 hrs on low! I would be really upset if I used up all my ingredients and looked forward to a great soup and the beans didn't cook! Would it make any difference if I soaked the beans overnight first?

if you soak them first it will be fine. i have done it many times.
