I'm at 30-weeks and still trying to understand the myriad diapering options before acquiring my stash. DH swears he will not touch a prefold, but I do not want to have to run the dryer for half a day to dry AIOs and fitteds, so... I'm trying to figure out my quick-dry options.

So far, I'm getting that there are:
  • pockets with inserts
  • snap-in soakers
  • lay-in soakers
  • sewn-in fold-out soakers
  • stitched-down (at top or center) soakers
Do I have it all covered? I don't know how to do a poll, but which do you all prefer and why? Are they truly "quick-dry"? Which WAHMs or companies make the style you like (links are always appreciated
)? Also, does anybody know at what point a diaper is too "layered" to be quick-dry (just wondering)?

Thanks for your input, mamas! I'm hoping to go diaper shopping this week!

I prefer snap in, and dont really have a reason why other than they dry quickly. I just like them better than lay in and I am not that crazy about the kind that are sewn in and fold out. They just flop around and since I hang dry the dont lay right.

I enjoy snapping all the doublers in their matching diapers when they are dry!

For quick-dry, I like pocket FITTEDS best, because I can keep an all-natural system and still have the convenience of a pocket dipe (as far as ease in washing, and putting on - no floppy lay-in pieces to get kicked around by a squirmy baby!) Then I can just pop a wool cover over it, and we're good to go.

I like snap-ins and pockets and would probably really like sewn in but don't have any of those.

I don't like having a bunch of different snap-ins or pocket inserts because it makes laundry difficult when you have to match the right snap in to the right diaper.

I like pocket AIOs (Fuzzibunz or similar) and pocket fitteds the best. As mendhi_mama said, there's no soaker flopping around for a squirmy baby to kick. Also, the fleece inner keeps baby dry. And you can stuff the pocket with something quick-drying too. My favorite stuffers are Babykicks duz-it-alls. They are just as absorbant and trim as a large JoeyBunz, but dry in a flash.

Kelly~ a little OT, but where are you on the central coast? I'm only about 2 hours from Monterey, maybe next week I can drive over there and we can meet. I've got a little bit of everything, I can show you what some of this is so you have a better idea. If you are interested, pm me.

Sherri - I PM'ed you back.

I'm a couple of hours south of Monterey, in San Luis Obispo county (sheer heaven, if you ask me, but the locals want to keep that a secret -- sshh...)

Seems like most mamas like the detachable-type diaper (pocket, snap and lay-in). Yeah, those make sense to me (although ask me this again when I'm matchin', stuffin' and snappin' a couple of dozen diapers every couple of days. :LOL

Hi, I rarely post, but lurk often. : )

I use coin-op in my apt buidling, so super quick dry was essential (the dryers here are terrible)

I stuff my pockets with fleece hemp material I bought. I cut it in large rectangles and fold it in quarters. It becomes the shape of a sewn stuffer. I didn't even sew the edges, the edges curl a bit, like cut sweatshirt material, but it's no big deal.

When it is washed, it opens up to the large, single layer of material, and air dries in a snap.

This was a super cheap, easy alternative to the professionally made stuffers that I was looking at.

I don't know what the dryer fuss is all about. I've lived in three different places with three different dryers and I've never had to dry my diapers for more than 90 minutes on the high setting to get even the thickest-soaker fitteds and AIO's totally dry.

While quick-dry is nice, I don't go out of my way for it either.

I live in AZ where it's very dry all year round, and even here some things take 2 cycles to dry, while others dry in no time.

Best:
flatfold dipes used as stuffers - dry in 20 min. on low heat!
infant prefolds used as stuffers- dry in about 60 min. on low heat
ME OS and ME AIO's dry in an hour on low heat. Both have snap in or lay in layers to dry faster

Worst:
Premium prefolds
Joeybunz
a certain WAHM dipe that was beautiful but tooooo many layers

Currently my baby is in HH's with infant prefold stuffers. They will line dry in the summer here in around 2 hours or less, and in the dryer it's about an hour on low heat. Yes I do dry my HH's in the dryer as it says to on the tag. When I line dry them, they stay in the shade with the fleece exposed and the PUL hidden.

Just an aside, if anyone wants to travel with cloth dipes and you don't have access to a dryer, I highly recommend flat dipes either as stuffers or to use inside a cover as a reg. diaper. When I was in India I used to hand wash them and hang them on a line across our room at night and most of the time they were dry by morning! Have to double them up to use in a diaper.

i love quick dry. lay-in or snap-in are my favorite now that dd is eating so many solids. i generally only have to deal with poo on the soaker when she poos. pockets drive me batty. i can't seem to get inserts to fit in the pocket without them seeming all bunchy and uncomfortable for dd. i love sewn-in too as long as it's just a wet diaper or while baby is ebf but they seem to leave lots of crevices for stuff to get into. blech!
