Here's the situation.

6 weeks along.
Left sided pain for about a week or so.
Spotting that is brown and with some clots.

What's going on? Miscarriage? Normal stuff? ER visit? What do I tell her? I did tell her to make sure that DP knows that something is wrong, but it's not looking like anyone will be able to be with her tonight to keep an eye on things.

Get her to an ER, seriously. Ectopics CAN resolve on their own, but it's not a good idea to risk it as they can (and do) kill, and she has the standard symptoms of it.

It could be an ovarian cyst bursting, which would feel somewhat similar, or it could be a miscarriage. Regardless, you need to rule out an ectopic.

Just dandy. She called the doc and the nurse told her to lie down and 'monitor' things.
If things get worse she's supposed to call back.
She promised me she'd have her Dp call me if anything changes though, so I hope he remembers to do that if something happens.

Does anyone know how quickly things can progress from this to bad or really bad?

Someone on these boards (in my DDC) the other day, doubled over in pain, passed out and lost 2 liters of blood on the way to the hospital. Her tube had burst. Things can get bad very quickly. If it were me, I'd go to urgent care now. If you show up, they have to treat you.

Oh that's awful!
The stupid nurse keeps telling her to monitor things. I told her to call her back and ask if she's just telling her to sit around and wait until she has to go to the ER.
We are at the dentist right now, so I can't call her in here, but I will check up on her again when we get home.

I had an ectopic burst. It's EXTREMELY painful and dangerous. I had similar symptoms to your friend for about 3 days, I thought it was nightmare constipation (didn't know I was preggo) then on the third night it burst. I lost alot of blood and most of my tube.

I would go into ER if I were her. They should do a diagnostic u/s and they may see if it is ectopic or not. There's no gaurantee though, my second ectopic was misdiagnosed by an OB and the ER personnel... I had to go to another hospital and be seen by my regular OB before they found it and it had already gotten pretty close to bursting by then

I hope your friend is ok, and everything turns out well...
