Quickie Microfiber Towel Question

521 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  kimberlylibby
Trying to solve our mysterious pee through everything under the sun problem.... the only dipe currently working is our Pipsqueaks. I'm trying to be patient waiting for the 16 dipes we have on the way, hoping something will keep girlie's urine in!

Anyway, short story made long, I went to Walmart (ugh, hadn't been there in FOREVER) and got some microfiber towels. The only kind they had was this ENORMOUS 2 foot by 3 foot one. I cut it into 6 stripes.... do I need to zig zag the edges or serge them? Or is it okay? I notice little pills flying everywhere, but I realllly don't want to sew them unless I have to.

I wouldn't bother sewing them - the edges should wear just like fleece does.

HTH
I think you need to finish the edges. Otherwise they will just keep raveling, if it is anything like the microterry yardage I made some doublers with.

Besides, if the stuff didn't ravel, Walmart wouldn't pay someone to serge the edges of all the towels they sell, KWIM?
They need to be surged or T&T. How mant layers are you useing? I find I need 2-3 layers to work well. I know of at least one co-op on yahoo that co-ops the MFTs.

Just checked & one is open & one is closed. Thye are 1.25 PP. PM me for more info.
23 layers???? HOLY COW. I just put a trifolded piece in on top of her regular prefold inside her fuzzibunz.

23 LAYERS? Are you serious??????

Ahhhhhh, much better.

I was thinking HOLY COW that would be a HECK of a diaper!!!

I just did a quick zig zag around the edges to be safe. I still don't see how they can come unravelled, but then the amount of fluff that flew off was pretty amazing!

P.S. The real reason I didn't want to sew them was cause I'd have to put a shirt on over my bra cause my sewing machine is in front of a window....

yes...you have to zig zag the layers together or t&t...they will fall apart and leave little white fuzzies EVERYWHERE.
by the way, m/f towels should only be used as an insert and not a doubler, unless there is another layer touching your babies skin. It is very iritating and SO SO absorbant it will suck all the moister out of his her butt.
Okey dokey.

I am using them inside of fuzzibunz.... so I think we're okay.

DD woke up with NO LEAKS last night, and this is a MIRACLE!! We had seriously been changing her 5-6 times a night lately!!
