My friend has a 6-week-old baby boy (who was born 3.5 weeks early) and his belly button is large and rounded, like a dome. She hasn't seen the doctor yet and thinks this may be an umbilical hernia... has anyone's DC had this? If so, how do you treat it? I was amazed at how much her DS's belly button was raised - it almost looked fake.

TIA!

My friend's DC has a belly botton like this and, yes, she does have an umbilical hernia. Like the PP said, it is supposed to resolve by 1 year.

Sounds like an umbillical hernia to me as well.. They normally go away on their own, but sometimes require surgery especially if something becomes stuck in it.. As long as it will reduce then it is nothing to worry about. My youngest has one and he is 2 now and still has it.
