Random Question (TMI?)

Ok so this might be kind of random. But I have been wondering about this for a while. I have been checking my cervix at different points since I found out I was pregnant because I wanted to know at what point it moves high and is tightly closed. I am now 8w5d and it is still fairly low and slightly open. Its not open to where I could fit a finger tip in but its definitely not closed. With my last pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage at about 8 weeks my cervix was high and tightly closed the one time I checked it at around 6 weeks.

So I guess what I am asking is it normal for my cervix to still not be totally closed and high up? Any thoughts will help. TIA

I'm certainly no expert, because I'm terrible at figuring out my cervical position (what's the difference between high and medium??)! But, I think I remember reading in TCOYF that if you've already had a vaginal birth, the cervix may always feel a tiny bit open...don't know if that helps!

Totally normal. It is slightly open because you have had a baby before. It is also most likely slightly open on the outside and closed on the inside, because unless you have started effacing your cervix is long. Also, it will move around during the pregnancy and even day to day. For the most part I find it low near the beginning ad getting higher as the pregnancy progresses and your uterus tips out and forward. I would say it would be low until your uterus gets up and out of your pelvis and starts tipping forward out of your abdomen. Maybe another month or so? Eventually near the end, I can't even reach my cervix because it goes high up behind my baby's head. HTH.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I am just paranoid about every little thing. But it helps to know that this is normal.
I just asked my midwife this morning a similar question, and she pointed out, that the cervix should be at least 4cm long, but this hard to figure out by yourself. She did a pelvic check and my cervix looks fine - long and the opening is fine, although I though it felt large...
