My Grandma currently keeps my almost-9 mo DS while DH and I work full-time. My Grandma comes to our house and does not accept any money.

This summer my Grandma is going to Maine on vacation for 2 months. I have a 20 year old cousin who is currently in college who is going to care for DS while my grandma is away. If I didn't need my cousin's help, she would probably work part-time waitressing for a family catering business that doesn't provide much money so she is thrilled for this opportunity.

How much should I pay my cousin as hour to come to my house to tend DS? DS is not a fussy child and does not cry so truly she will have a fairly easy job. I will provide breakfast, lunch and snack foods for my cousin and have told her to make me a grocery list each week of what she wants. My house is 2 miles from her house so she is thrilled about the short commute.

I have no idea what is a reasonable rate for in-home child care so any information is welcomed. Thanks in advance!

I have no idea what the going rate is around these parts!
But I don't think that should really matter. Talk to her about what she thinks is fair and go from there. And I would recommend a daily or weekly rate instead of hourly - just easier to calculate.

How lucky for you that you have family to help out!

We pay $175 a week to a SAHM with one dd to watch our ds full-time. But the rates are really all over the place for at home daycares. I would just come up with a comfortable number for you and then ask her what she is comfortable with.
