When you have to board your dogs, and they must eat commerical kibble, do you have any brands you recommend?

Beanie has such a sensitive tummy and after just one week on raw, he is doing great! Tiny hard poops, no tummy upset. I
raw!

BUT, we have to board him this weekend. I'm terrified to go back to the kibble he was eating (he had tummy issues on it!) and no clue what to send with him to the vet for boarding.

Any suggestions?

can you use frozen raw, will the kennel put it in their freezer for you? If not, then there's always Honest Kitchen. It's dehydrated raw food that you reconstitute with warm water. It's pretty expensive, but really good food.

Thats pretty much what I was going to say. The one time I boarded my dogs, they kennel gave them chicken leg quarters for me, but I was the manager of one of the satellite locations, so it was a bit of a different situation. I cant imagine there being problem with feeding frozen prepared raw...though I would assume an extra charge would be added.

I had a kennel feed my dogs raw too - they asked that each day's food be labelled with dog's name and individually packaged. Have you tried asking if they would do raw, say if you provided ground patties from one of the "pre-made raw" companies? Sometimes if it's commercial, packaged, and labelled they are more comfy with it (even vets).

I would definately ask about them feeding raw to your pups and if they won't try finding another kennel. I hate kennelling my dogs and refuse to do it, can you have a friend or a family member come over to your house (or your dog go to their house) and have them take care of it while you are gone?

I guess I just assumed they would freak if I asked them to do raw .. but I will certainly ask.

I really like boarding him at this place - he's at our vet's office and literally spends his days in the lap of the receptionist (yes, they are open Sat and Sun). He's very happy there - the staff brings their dogs in to work each day and he plays with them, etc.

I have a potential "dog sitter" that would watch him in her home, but she said no way on raw.

I'll certainly ask the vet - his food is already portioned out and frozen, so it would be very easy for them.

Also, thanks for the food rec's, I will check those out in case the vet says no to frozen raw. Thanks guys!

If they are resistant to the raw, you may want to explain that he's on it because of tummy issues, and the raw is working well. If the dog gets sick because he's suddenly switched back to kibble, it may have disastrous intestinal consequences.
Honestly, I'd rather toss a chicken leg out of a bowl than deal with 'mudpies'.
