Okay unless someone has some good ideas for me, I'm about to give the no-poo thing up!

I have been trying for a long time...at least 6 weeks. My hair feels like crap...none of that soft and shiny for me. It feels like weighted down oil slick on the top and straw at the bottom. No matter how much I rinse it feels like there is residue on my hair.

I'm sick of my hair feeling and looking so crappy. I have fought the good fight and unless someone has something for me to try...I give.

this is what I do sometimes. Like if I don't feel like washing my hair with herbal shampoo, I will just rinse with ACV. Although I don't know if that helps any, maybe it's just in my mind LOL! But everytime I use baking soda my hair gets icky

I just sprinkle a powder in my hair and let it sit for a minute to soak up grease and then rub it out (only where needed)

works well with no fuss , but only for a day...after that it starts looking ... weird?!

I wonder if it has anything to do with your water- maybe BS only works in soft water, or something like that.

Remember that the main "point" of no-poo is to avoid the chemicals in commercial shampoos. You could try washing your hair with a natural soap (whatever you use on your face and/or body) and see how that works out.

I wondered the same thing about hard vs. soft water...we have hard water.

I figured I could try the no chemical thing...I was shooting for cheap though...we're poor
Honestly I just use a wash cloth to bathe with...don't really use soap unless somehow I've gotten muddy. I don't think I'm stinky :LOL

I've played with the bs mixture. I've tried a tbsp or so with water into a liquid and used that - results: leaves the oil on the roots, ends dry, but not brittle. 2 tbsp or so with water into a paste - results: oil is gone from the roots, but feels like a residue no matter how much I rinse, ends are brittle dry. ACV - I tried 2 tbsp at first diluted in water...hair seemed oilier. Then moved to maybe 1/2 a tbsp diluted. Then tried lemon juice.

Basically it's like I have combination hair. I can address the roots, but not the ends and vice versa.

Have you tried an application of cassia obovata (senna; neutral henna)? It won't color your hair, but it leaves it shiny and strong and manageable like henna does for a few weeks afterward. It might help to bring the balance back, and get you that shine you're looking for. You can find it at www.hennaforhair.com. I mix about 50grams with a warm pectin slip, and work it into my hair like conditioner. I leave it in for 30 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Might be worth a try.

A tiny bit of citric acid powder dissolved in water is another good rinse.

We have hard water, too, and the no poo thing is not working for me (as much as I want it to for the same reasons everyone else does- to be cheap!). Maybe it IS the water that makes it work or not.

Will the yogurt get the ickies off? I can make my own yogurt so that could be an economical choice. Olive oil based soap...hmmmm I have a burts bees shampoo bar that I used today. I rinsed with ACV. It feels a little dry, but not as brittle. What would a good conditioner be? I find that putting the almond oil on my hair really doesn't help. If I put enough for it to help I've had to saturate my hair and that doesn't work.

At some point we will replace our water softener (for now it's not functional and we just unplugged it) and will have to try bs again.

I agree on the cheap thing. I will add though it is also to decrease the toxic load on my system. Last winter I was sick a ridiculous amount. I would get maybe a week off in between colds/viruses. It was crazy. So, I'm trying to make some changes to improve my immune system, and one of them is to decrease the load...

I am not sure. I just remember that my mom recommended it to me and I tried it. My hair was so soft afterwards! I also make my own yogurt. It doesn't hurt to try. I would love to hear how it works out for you if you do try it.

This may sound strange but I
it! I take a small bowl, fill it about 1/2 full with salt. Then I pour olive oil in until it is a stiff but soupy paste. I use this from head to toe to exfolliate, cleanse, and soften/moisturize. My hair is soft, shiny, and healthy, and the rest of me is good too
I HIGHLY recommend it. If the proportions are different it is not a big deal...I get the salt at the grocery store (any kind will do) right now the cheapest is about 37 cents a box which will last me a good month. Then a big ol bottle of Olive Oil at Sam's is 9 bucks. I use it to cook with all the time too :LOL and it lasts for 6 months or so (with batheing and cooking).

Good luck!

Oh! Sorry. I didn't mean that that's the only reason to do the no poo. In comparison to buying all natural shampoo, bs and acv are a lot cheaper!!! I'm trying to decrease all the icky stuff in my house, too, and I'm finding that if I buy all natural stuff and don't make my own, it's too expensive for our budget.

I have to make the natural stuff...there's no way I could afford to buy that stuff! I agree it is sooo expensive.

I have tried a shampoo bar (a burt's bees one)...I'm not sure what the ingredients are though now because when I bought it I took it out of the box and tossed it. Silly me. I'll check next time though. I've been using that and then rinsing with ACV. I am finding though it is increasing my need to shampoo. I could go longer in between shampoos with the bs. But I'm also not having the dry brittle ends problem either.

So any thoughts on the difference? And why is it that using the shampoo bar is creating the need to wash more frequently?

Thanks!

I ended up quitting the no poo because I found that my time between cleanings didn't increase as I had hoped and my hair was a bit dry from the BS and ACV. I'm using the kiss my face now after not liking the jason. How do you make your own yogurt? I might be willing to try that!
