We are vacationing in Seattle/Tacoma (beginning September 8th) for a few days before heading over to Ocean Shores for several days of beach time.

We plan on the Woodland Park Zoo, PSC, Pike Market & the Aquarium, seeing a relative in Bellevue, Fran's Chocolates (!) and a few other fun places.

Dh feels we can drive from Seattle to Tacoma in the morning (spend a few hours at Point Defiance Zoo) and then easily drive to Ocean Shores in a couple of hours.

Does this sound right???

I am thinking this looks like a longer trip. We don't mind it taking several hours. It's just nice to know before you go!!!

Any good restaurant recommendations between Tacoma & Ocean Shores??

I did a map on Yahoo for Tacoma to Ocean Shores and it estimated the travel time at 2 hours and 10 minutes. Whenever I go south of Tacoma on I-5, I tend to hit traffic around Fort Lewis so I would plan on it taking a little longer than that... but it's not a crazy long trip.
I'm not sure about restaurants between Tacoma and Ocean Shores, but I definitely wasn't impressed by the restaurants in Ocean Shores last time I went. I think I ended up eating at McDonalds! I'm not sure what your expectations are of Ocean Shores, but I thought it would be like the cute little towns on the Oregon coast so I was fairly disappointed!!!

Oh we did something similar last year for our anniversary and DD's birthday (within a week of each ofhter end Sept/beg Oct) so I'll try to help!

I think for us it took about 3-4 hours from Seattle to the North end of Long Beach peninsula. We stopped a couple times - once for at least 20 min to have a snack, change DD's diaper, etc. It shouldn't take quite as long to get to Ocean Shores, but I don't know the exact difference since I haven't been there.

Just in case you go to Long Beach....
We stayed at Klipsan Beach Cottages , which we really liked! They have little kitchens, which we always prefer and seek out to save a little money and really for convenience. We like to pick and choose what meals to eat out.

I am not sure about restaurants between Tacoma and OS - but just in case you go to Long Beach....There was one reaaaaaly good restaurant that we tried in Ilwaco - something Bistro right on the water where the fisherman are - I'd have to look up the exact name. It was a newer place. When we went in early Oct it was time for the mushroom and cranberry harvests, so they had a fancy special menu that showcased the mushrooms. Our DD did really great! We went to the Cranberry fair which was rather disappointing except we bought a great homemade pie that was awesome. We skipped the bog tour though which I really wanted to do - but the weather was poor that day so I didn't want to drag DD out in it.

They may have some similar festivities in Ocean Shores too. I think it is worth the trip though to be on the coast. There isn't a lot of entertainment (maybe more in OS) but just walking on the beach and smelling the fresh ocean air is soooo nice!

And OH how I LOVE Fran's chocolates

Enjoy your stay here in Seattle! I'll actually be back in OH during that time visiting my own famliy

Oh and yes, the traffic around Tacoma on I-5 has been something awful lately (construction I think) so if you can find a way to avoid that you definitely should!

I would plan on it taking two hours from the Olympia/Tacoma area and 1-2 hours from Seattle to there, depending on when you go and the traffic conditions.

In my opinion, there isn't much worth stopping for on the way as far as restaurants, but you might want to stop in Olympia- there is a lot to choose from there. Whenever we head down that way we ALWAYS stop at the Oly Food Coop- they have a salad bar and a few ready made foods and a little eating area with a small play area for kids. Its healthy and delicious and right off I-5. We are members there from when we used to live down that way, but you don't have to be a member.

If you take the exit for the capital there are a bunch of restaurants. And the children's museum is worth a stop- I personally think it is the best one in the state- and I have been to almost all of them.
