OK, so I have to take cranberry pills because I get UTI's so easily. Since we are GIO so frequently, i have been taking them. Is there any way that the cranberry pills can affect my fertility (by altering the environment down there) I know that they can make your urine more acidic, thus killing off the bacteria, but is there any way that these pills are hurting my chances of conceiving?
Thanks in advance.
Hmmmm... I don't think so. I also get frequent GIO-related UTIs (none this cycle, thank heavens!)

I think sperm need an acidic environment to survive (women are naturally more alkaline). I could have that backwards, but either way, I think you're OK. I've never seen a prohibition about it...

Good luck!

(BTW, the one thing I started doing for my frequent UTIs was using a bidet or a handheld shower attachment to "wipe" after peeing... I think toliet paper is awfully scratchy -- even the soft kind. Water is a great cleanser. I moved into a house with a bidet last weekend, but before that, I was squatting in the shower... sorry if that is TMI.)

i may be way off here, but i think i remember reading somewhere about women using cranberry pills as suppositories to help their chances of having a girl....i'm not clear on how exactly or what exactly they were using, but they were using the cranberry vaginally to create a more girl-sperm friendly environment. i think it had to do with the acidity being more hostile to the boy-sperm. sorry i couldn't be more clear here....

I heard it was because the acidic environment is less favorable for sperm. The X sperm tend to be slower swimmers but a lot more hardy. The Y sperm have a lot of zip but not much stamina. By making the vagina "tougher" for sperm, the theory goes, the X's have a greater chance of making it to the cervix because the Y's burn out more quickly.

Hmmm, girls being more resilient and long-lived, why does that sound familiar?

OK, thanks for the reassurance. I think it would make sense that you would have to put something up there instead of just taking it orally to change the PH of the entire vagina. If taking cranberry pills helps having a girl, then I am all for it! We have one boy and would love a little girl, but I just want to be pregnant!
Thanks,
