I've been using nothing but prefolds and Nikky covers for quite a while and am just now venturing into the world of WAHMs, AIOs, etc. So I bought a bunch of stuff on the TP and made the mistake of getting all excited and opening everything at once and now ... I don't know what I have, exactly!

So here are the dumb questions: How do you tell the diff between fitteds and AIOs when they all have cute outer fabric? Are WIOs just wool AIOs? Do some AIOs lose their pee-proofness after a while? If so, can they somehow be re-peeproofed or must they now be used like fitteds, with separate covers? I have not yet acquired wool covers, but I want to, and I need to separate out the dipes that are ready to be used and the ones I have to save for covers ... I think I need a CD tutor to come to my house and walk me through everything, step by step!

This is all in the service of making CDing easier (!) so my DP and daycare lady will use them, since I seem to be the only adult I know IRL who can fold a prefold ... except for my one CDing friend and her DH, but they only use prefolds and can't help me with the dumb questions.

I guess I could just put them on the baby and notice which ones stay dry on the outside and which don't (guess what happened during his nap today!), but I'd rather not have to go through all of them with fingers crossed.

The PUL AIOs will have a sort of crunchy feeling if you squeeze them. Usually anything with a fleece outer is an AIO also. WIOs are wool covers with inserts that snap in. Don't wash the wool with the rest of the dipes! Everything else is a fitted that will need a cover.

AIOs either have a crunchy feeling print or a layer between the print and the inner material. I can tell by seperating the layers with my finger tips. If its a layer of PUL in there it will feel kind of slippery.

Are WIOs just wool AIOs?
Not really. The diaper part of the WIO (the part that holds the pee) snaps into the wool because the wool needs to be washed differently then the diaper material.

Do some AIOs lose their pee-proofness after a while?
Yes. Print outer AIOs do.

If so, can they somehow be re-peeproofed or must they now be used like fitteds, with separate covers?
You can buy waterproofing spray but I can't remember what its called.

That would be so fun and I'd LOVE to if I lived near you. Let us be your virtual CD tutors.

Thanks, mamas! If anyone knows the name of that spray and where to find it, please post! I'll see if I can tell the difference now, and save myself and DP some frustration ... BTW all the dipes I got are cute cute and fit nicely, so I'm pretty happy and looking for more ... gotta go lurk on TP some more.

Permanent Water Guard is what I bought. They carry it at Angelwraps.com. Works very well.
