My girls were playing with a bowl of water on the patio yesterday as I did dishes. My older DD says "Mama, Camille's eatin'." I turn around from the sink, expecting to see her eating bugs or leaves or grass, SOMETHING OTHER THAN HER OWN POO. It had come out the side of her diaper, and was all over her mouth. I really thought I was going to vomit. But I just kind of laughed, cleaned her up, put her back down to play....and immediately called my mother. She says she has never heard of such a thing, which kind of concerns me considering she has a BA in child development. Puh-leeze tell me this has happened to someone else.....anyone????

I remeber in my high school Child Development book there was a section on Freud and the "stages" he defined with kids. I do believbe there was one about poo/pee. I can't remember exactly what it said but he pretty much said they have a great big interest in it to the point of excitement. Sorry I can't be more help!

Well, how old is she?
When dd was about 12 mos, she was following our ferret around. He made a pit stop in a remote corner, and I was about 10 seconds behind them both. it's amazing how fast that poop made it into dd's mouth. We had had the ferret's poop checked for anything harmful before she was born, so we were'nt too concerned about that part, but OMG it was so disgusting. I called the doctor just in case and the nurse said you'd be surprised how many kids have eaten various types of poop. I think as long as she's not old enough to totally understand the grossness of it, then it's fine. Needless to say, my dd has never wanted to eat poop again.

In the Talk Amongst yourself forum there is thread about the grossiest thing you or someone has ever done. There are a number of those exact stories.

Yep, I've had one that thought it was edible, and it makes for interesting ahh finger paint :LOL So just a tip when you hear they have woken from their nap time and they are playing quitely, it doesn't hurt to peek and make sure they aren't redecorating the bed :LOL

My DD is only 14 mos. old, so I'm sure she has no idea what she did is wrong/disgusting. Thanks so much for making me feel better though! I've been walking around all day thinking "OMG, is my daughter some kind of circus freak???!!". I know, that's terrible to say, but REALLY!

I have twin cousins. When they were at the crawling age, their mom had just gotten them out of the bath and was letting them crawl around. One of them pooped on the floor and the other was right behind and ate it! :LOL I don't think the story will ever be forgotten in our family.

It's pretty normal. I used to babysit a girl who would smear her own poop all over the bathroom wall. She was about 2-3 at the time.

:LOL Yep, I've been there. Several times, actually. It's amazing how much damage they can do when they have 5 minutes to themselves. Not only has she painted her room, but also ALL of the climber toys in her playroom (she was inside the little tunnel, man was that ever a pain to clean out).

I don't beleive she's ever sampled it, but she sure thinks it's a fantastic art supply.
