DD is almost 8 months, we finally tried a bit of banana with her to see if she'd eat it. She gagged, she gagged at the thought even.

She was eager to stick it in her mouth but then when she figured it was food it was disgusting to her. Even putting it near her again made her gag.

It's so strange, I tried a bit of veggie tonight and the same thing. Is this normal? My first kid didn't do this.

i was told that it was normal and gagging is their way of learning not to choke or something??? or how to swallow???

anyway, i would every so often just continue to offer it to her, if she seems interested that is, but not to worry if it takes her a while. is the banana all mashed up?

i guess some babies aren't ready for a while longer, she's still pretty young, everyone has their own timing

My oldest refused everything until 9 months when he would start to eat purees. My second refused all solids until 15 months when he started eating everything in sight. My baby at 7 mo tries to grab everything and eats like he's been doing it all his life. It is a struggle to intro just one new food at a time (food allergy issues so we're being careful).

Follow baby's cues. Once they're ready to eat, it's obvious and effortless.

That's how *I* react to banana and several types of veggie.

Have you tried giving her a small assortment of things and letting her decide what to pick up and try?

Also, she's 9 months, maybe she just associates that sound with banana? Like how my niece would pant whenever she saw their dog.

she's almost 8 months, not babbling so I don't think it's a sound thing, she does it with every food I try actually. plastic, toys, feet, hands are all yummy to her though

mine was very slow with solids too. she gagged a lot and even threw up. it takes some time for some babies, as i understand (thought mine was the only one too). now she is 10 months and actively participating in finger foods so it will come with time!

i recommend that you join the baby led weaning thread for support on how to let your DD determine when she is ready!
