Hi,

I'm taking my four kids, age 3-13, for a day or two trip to Cape Cod next week (mid-June). Our only real destination is Eight Cousins, I think in Falmouth. (Hot Tip: the website www.abfc.com has a list of all the children's bookstores in country)

I've never been on the Cape -- we're from CT. Any suggestions of walkable, Main Street kinds of towns that might be fun for my brood and me? We're also looking for a fun hotel and any other suggestions of interesting kid activities and restaurants.

Thanks!

Hi MSM - Welcome to MDC!

I live on the Cape
What is your family interested in? What are you looking for in a hotel / motel / inn?

Falmouth has a nice downtown area so you can check that out while you are there. My favorite walk around town though is Provincetown - lots of cool shops and the beach is right there too so you can check that out. The National Seashore in Eastham is beautiful if you want to spend some time in nature (it's on the way to Provincetown which is at the very tip of the Cape).

Welcome MainStreetMama! Just want to say that although I've never been to the Cape with my 6 month old that I also reccommend National Seashore as a stopping point. It is gorgeous!!! June's Family Fun Magazine mentions Cape Cod - Eastham specifically for the National Seashore. They had a lot more info at their website:

Have fun and good luck!!!

Thanks to both mamas for the feedback -- We had a pretty good time, though I underestimated how confusing those roundabouts can be while you are simultaneously opening a juice box, looking at someone's drawing and playing D&D for the first time...we spent a few hours going the wrong way, here and there, but weren't in a rush so just sang a chorus of "hooray, hooray, we're going the wrong way" and turned around.

Eight Cousins in Falmouth was a treat for everyone -- great vibe, and great books. Then we spent a day at Plimouth Plantantion, where my 13-year old surprised me by actually being very interested in what was going on -- except for reading, he's at that "if it's not electronic, I'm not into it" age, and it was so nice to see him trying something new.

The one big mistake was sleeping at the Radisson in Plymouth. I thought I was splurging, just so we'd be sure to get a good night's sleep...but it's a real pit.

best,
