I'm new at this so I want to know about nursing bras...where to buy, what brand is good, what offers support, ease of nursing with bra, etc.

My boobs have already taken over (as my husband would say : "Wow! Look at those jugs!") and I'm afraid that by the end of the first month of nursing, they'll be down by my belly button. So, for me, support is important!!! Are all bras made the same in terms of feeding ease? And is there like a flap or something that you just open up in order for the baby to nurse?

OH, and I've heard of nursing shirts/tank tops that have a flap which enable the baby to nurse? Where would I find those?

I tried a Bravado bra with baby #1 and didn't like it at all. It was always the last bra I grabbed from the drawer. I didn't find it comfortable or fit well. I am pretty small busted and it was clearly made for someone needing a lot more cup. When I was totally engorged with milk in the beginning, I just walked around the house topless and holding a washrag
'cause milk was spraying everywhere and I was always wet. Once engorgement subsided, I liked other bras built for smaller boobs a lot better. Actually one of my favorites was one I picked up at Kohls, but darn it, I can't remember what brand it was. Just a super basic white cotton nursing bra.
Just thought I'd throw that in for balance.

I was not a bravado fan either, but it takes all kinds right?

I used a soft cup bra from target that was just 12$. I ended up with about four or five of them in various sizes as I fluctuated.

I also discovered I liked one that Medela makes, I think it's called the comfort bra. It's very stretchy kind of like a sports bra, so it doesn't give you a very defined shape, but it's extremely comfortable and about the only thing i can tolerate under my rib cage at the moment. it will also stretch over different cup sizes.

just a small tip, i remember my LC saying don't wear an underwire bra when you are nursing because it may lead to clogged ducts.

good luck

Well... I used to be a die-hard bravado fan, but was somehow convinced to try the YES! nursing bra (search ebay for YES and "nursing bra").

They are AMAZING!! They are similar to a Bravado, but are far better, IMO. And far cheaper! You can get two YES! bras for less than the cost of a single bravado. Quite the deal. Worth checking out, since nursing bras are SO expensive.

I'm another Bravado hater and a YES lover. It's all I wear, I usually can be found at my LLL meeting, lifting up my shirt to show other mommas my bra.
I'm small framed but with large breasts, and the regular Bravados don't give me any support, but the pluses or whatever they are called swallow me. I have bought practicially every bra on the market, and have only liked the YES.

Medium-sized here, and a die-hard Blue Canoe fan. I LOVE these bras, all $34 worth of them. They also last forever, and you can just pull down the cup to feed instead of having to resnap (the Bravados were forever puzzling to my tiny PP brain).

Okay this is kindof embarrassing but I have really LONG nipples that will stick out like a freakazoid if I don't have some light padding in there.

I actually ordered the YES! bra (great deal) but I don't think it has the padding I need to keep my nipples from greeting everyone through my clothes
.

My DH & my DD are amazed at how much longer & larger they've gotten now. Geez, I hope the little guy can fit them into his mouth :2bfbabe: .

Anyway, any rec's for lightly padded nursing bras out there? I'm an average cup I guess. Pre PG I'm a 34C. Now I'm a 36C.

Anita,
I have the same problem. I like the Mimi Maternity microfiber bra. It isn't really padded, but it seems to help with the headlight factor.

I had two different kinds of bravado bras, and with both of them, the large elastic band that goes around the ribcage kept on folding in half, especially after washing, which made it more of a problem when wearing... it was kind of annoying. I got pretty big for my size (38DD) when nursing the twins, and the bravados, although they do provide alot of support, also had a little too much restriction/compression, and I ended up getting a lot of plugs. I eventually switched to Japanese Weekend OK nursing bras, and babystyle's nursing bra. Very little support, but oh so comfy. I don't like clips or snaps, esp. when twins are starving at the mall... so I wanted something I could easily slide over QUICKLY to nurse.

I LOVE the bras on Figleaves.com

I don't like Blue Canoe bras at all, not for nursing. I haven't tried the YES! or Bravado's, but I prefer very defined bras and I'm also rather large (28DD) so it's hard to find some that fit.
