Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me find an Austin pediatrician/family doctor who is open-minded and also accepts Medicaid insurance, for those occasions when we do need an MD. The first one we tried was really weird! My daughter is almost 4 and we're natural parenting, vegan, non-vaxxing, etc. I want someone who won't harass us about our choices. Thanks!

Hello,
We use South Austin Pediatrics. Dr.'s Ramona Lopez and Peter? Hine, and also a NP Kathy White. So far they have been very open to our delayed (possibly forever) vaccination schedule. (we've seen all 3 practitioners) No harassment about delaying solids, cosleeping, or anything else either. As far as no vaxing period, I'm not sure, but I would think that they would be open. Options tend to be more limited with Medicaid, but so far I feel like they have respected our parenting decisions. Hope that helps!

I also use s austin pedi. I really like them. I'm not sure about hines, but I know lopez does not take new patients except newborns (then she will accept their sibs).

I have heard that ruiz at bee caves pedi takes medicaid and is open to ap practices but I have never been there.

Can anyone else give a recommendation? Dr. Lopez is not accepting any new patients, and the Medicaid system has changed to an HMO format, meaning the choices are slim. Ninety percent of the docs you can choose from are not accepting new patients (wtf?)!

We recently qualified for Medicaid and have to choose a practitioner ASAP, or they will assign one. I don't know anything about these docs, so all I'm going on right now is proximity to my house. We are non-vaxxing, wholistic-healing, antibiotic-leary and, like heidismom, just want an allopathic doc for occasionally. Any Austin moms know any other chat groups where I can ask this question. Please PM me if you do. I have to fill out these forms soon!

Dr. Glen Wood is a good enough dr. he tolerates open mindedness but you won't find him spouting it. on the other hand, he is at least medically qualified. the others I do not know.

I do not know if they take medicaid but Southwest Pediatrics with Dr. Patil ( I do not remember the other names) is awesome! She is a "all natural" parent as well!
