I just noticed some red patches, not sure how long they've been there as they're mostly on my back & the sides of my hips, so not normally visible to me (or husband, as I stay pretty bundled up). They don't itch, they're not very large, smaller in size than a quarter (but not round), they don't seem very raised or bumpy but might be slightly, and they feel slightly dry to the touch.

I tried googling but nothing seems to fit. Anyone have any ideas (this is my first pregnancy); does this sound like something to not worry about? I see the dr a week from today, so I'm thinking it's not necessary to call and run it by them, it sounds like rashes are unlikely to cause a problem, does that sound right? My instinct is to not to stress unless it gets much worse, but I'd hate to not stress enough when I ought to, either...

Any experience would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure what that could be. I know that it's hard to tell with you being pregnant, too, but do you have any other symptoms? Are they painful at all? Not on any other part of your body? My first thought was shingles. Have you had chicken pox before? I only say this because it is limited to your upper half. But, I'm certainly no doctor! My mom had them, that's why they are on my mind.

If I were you, I would just call the doctor and let them know that you had them. Let them decide if it's something worth worrying about.

Good luck!

I had a few spots like that on my thighs during my first pg. I don't know that I ever mentioned them to the doc, although I probably did. Somehow I got the idea it was pregnancy induced excema - but who knows what combo of guessing and googling led me to that idea!

Hi everyone, thanks very much for the replies. I have had chicken pox but it doesn't look bumpy like shingles. I'm not sure about the eczema - most of the pictures I find look much worse but there's one or two where it looks closer than anything else I've seen so far. I've started to feel a little itchy but of course at this point it could just be in my head
I think I will wait till I see the dr next week, but if it starts to bother me I might try the coconut oil (unless it gets really worse, in which case I'll probably call).

Thanks very much for the responses!

I just saw someone interviewed on the Today show who said she was told by her doctor that her red spots were caused from the increased blood flow created by pregnancy and what you might be seeing are the blood vessels coming to the surface. Does that seem like what might be going on?

There is a wide range with eczema and unfortunately the pictures on the web are usually the worst cases (crusty, oozy, etc). DD has had eczema and I occasionally get it and it has never gotten like that. I would say, if they don't itch it probably isn't eczema. Eczema is known as the itch that rashes and that has certainly been the case with us. DD will itch for several days sometimes before any redness appears (and she has very sensitive and fair skin).
