Given your druthers, where would you go first for a refi? Say you had good credit but not much in the way of equity, but you thought you'd run it up the flagpole and see if a refi would work in your favor.

Would you go to your current lender? A mortgage consultant? A big name bank like BOA? A local credit union? Other?

And why?

I would go with your current lender and the bank you use for your banking.

We are refi-ing with our current lender. Because we have over 40% equity, our credit didn't even matter. Its the overall picture that matters, so if your credit is good, you've never been late and your income is well within the range of affording your home- then chance are that your equity won't matter much.

First place I called was my current lender. We've been happy with them, so I figured I'd see what they had to say. Then I went to my current banker, which also happens to be my local CU. SInce the difference between the two was minor, I went with my bank.
