my 16 month old had gotten to where he only nursed and few times during the day and then some at night, but was eating a lot of what my husband and i eat. now over the past few days he has suddenly started refusing to eat most solid foods. those he does put in his mouth he seems to chew and then spit out later. all i can get him to eat are raisins. (yeah a choking hazard). he has gone back to nursing almost all day. is this normal? just a short phase? growth spurt? or any ideas...i don't think it is because he wants my attention or anything like that..because he gets it pretty much 24 hours a day, but im not sure if maybe something is bothering him.

You never know. My ds will sometimes go a whole day without nursing, then all of a sudden he doesnt want any real food, just mommy milk! I am not sure what the cause is, but like you said it doubt its attention b/c we are together all day too. Just wanted you to know hes not the only one!

LOL, I have been heard to say that my 24 mth old has days where he is EBF, he's going through it this week. I've actually seen that he does it when he is fighting off an illness. Both his older brothers are about to head off to the doctors for suspected strep throat but I know Nicholas will not have it, or if he has it he is successfully fighting it off. Oh the wonders of breastmilk! I swear, I would be quite happy nursing this lad until college, then he wouldn't catch any nasty illnesses like his brothers do.

a pedi once asked me, this was years ago with my first, 'how does he eat over a 2 wk period?' The point was that in a given 2wk period, he did eat a little of everything, since then I've not worried so much (except for my 2nd who has Celiac Disease and refused to eat due to pain in his stomach, but that is a different story and you as a parent know something isn't right KWIM?)

All sorts of things can make a toddler change their mind about food. Sometimes the mouth is tired or sore, regardless of when teeth came in, a piece of food might have scratched his mouth, etc. There are days we just don't feel like eating ourselves -- usually all normal.

Keep fluids up and keep offering foods, eventually he will be hungry enough to eat.
