Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to register a homebirth in PA. I don't know if it matters, but I live in Berks County. Whom do I need to contact, and what's required as proof, etc? Any help on these things or other info on this would be great! (Oh, and how long do you have to register the birth after it takes place?)

Thanks!

I'm not sure but I'm in Berks County also. I assume you're doing a UC? I used Reading Birth and Women's Center in Shillington for both of my deliveries but neither of mine were homebirths so I'm not sure about who to contact.

From what I'd heard from other folks, I was expecting to just have to go down to Vital Statistics in the county seat and fill out some forms. I don't know what their timeline is but I figured they'd better darn well give me at least 30 days. UC didn't go as planned anyway so I never did find out. :

From what I've researched all you do is call Vital Statistics. Ask for the person in charge of registering homebirths. They will send you out the paperwork you need. I believe you need two witnesses (and I believe you and your DP if you have one can be a witness). Fill out the paperwork and send it back in.

I had two homebirths in Berks County. My Midwife was Lynn Shay. I bet if you called her office she could tell you what you need to do. Her number is:

Her husband is a doctor that shares an office with her and I have nothing but great things to say about both of them. Good luck!
