I gave up gluten and soy for about 5 weeks and would like to know how to go about reintroducing these foods to determine the culprit.

ds, 13 weeks, has had reflux, mucous and then began to develop diaper rash (the entire diaper area, with thick red skin around the anus). his diaper rash nearly disappeared after 2 weeks, with a flare-up around the waist--minimal cf. to the earlier rash. the reflux and mucous seem less, but haven't gone away entirely.

i must add that my gluten and soy fast was strict, but i did eat some packaged foods that appeared to be clearly gluten-free, but were no labeled as such.

thanks in advance for the help!

If the reflux and the mucous haven't gone away completely, and your ds still has diaper rash (are you sure it's diaper rash and not eczema?), I wouldn't consider him to be at baseline. Since dairy is THE most common intolerance, why don't you take that out as well, and see if you can get ALL the way to baseline, and then reintroduce to find the culprit?

For reintroduction, if you're BFing, I would introduce one at a time, and eat the food for 2 days (unless you get a reaction after 1), then wait a week (or more if he needs to get back to baseline). Then try the other one.

on sunday i had a big hot chocolate and he had really bad spitting up and colic....so it made me think about the dairy as well.

the other thing is, i noticed that i´ve been eating soy lechtin (in chocolate) all this time and had some tofu in my veg. chili yesterday. agh!

as far as the gluten goes, i thought that i have been doing great as far as abstaining, but then i remembered that i´ve been taking communion every week (and so has ds-though a miniscule amount, still gluten)

so....what if i just took a break and eased in a few soy/gluten items, then next week go totally dairy-free for a month? i am just perplexed as to how to go about this!

I would not want to add ANYTHING back in until you see a clear, happy healthy baby. I would definitely pull milk right away... give things another month to settle down and then see where you are before making any decisions. (Unless things get worse... then I would go straight to a Top-8-free diet.)

I'd take out the top 4: dairy, gluten, soy, and corn. ALL of it. For two weeks.

thanks for all of the helpful input!

is there some way to tell which sensitivity our baby might have? a way to narrow it down?

ds had green poop w/mucous last night. though it was not the 1st time, it doesn't happen everyday.

is there a list for the top 4 free diet? also, packaged foods that might fall under this category (esp. chocolate)? Is this laughable?

thanks for the help!

I'm totally new to the allergies thing, but my nursing guy reacted to chocolate... colicky and night wakings, and fussy. I still can't get away with eating much, and he's two. (And trust me, I know how much it sucks to give up chocolate
).

Just to comment on the rash around the waist. Does he wear pajamas that have snaps/ my oldest has a nickel allergy. Pj's with snaps always left a rash wherever the snaps touched his skin. We switched to zippers after we figured it out.

Alot of my recipes are corn, gluten, dairy, soy free because we are (though some are from before that).

Tell me what kinds of things you like, and I'll tell you what brands we use.

My kids can't tolerate even soy lecithin, so I'd be stringent when trying to determine.
