ok, this is kinda confusing but here I go. A girl that I know had a baby back in october. She had wanted an abortion, but was too far along, so she decided to go the adoption route. She coldnt find a family to place the baby with until her was 4 months old. So from birth to 4 months he was EBF (along with co sleeping and babywearing, the whole deal) The baby was placed with a family in Jan (open adoption), and just a few weeks ago the adoption agency decided that it wasnt a "good fit" so the baby ended back with her. the family thought he was too "high needs" (Go figure, who wouldnt be after 4 months of attachment to the mother)

I think that now she realizes that the baby is SUPPOSE to be with her, and she is having a hard time having the baby back. She was saying how she's really sorry that she let her milk dry up, etc. She has NO support from family, but is living withher mom and dad. Before she got the baby ack she was doing really bad....ei linving on the street, etc. She really looks to me for advice soI was wondering if its still possible for her to relactate.

Actually, I"m sure it is, but how do I go about helping with that> Will it be easier since its only been about 6 months of no nursing?? Any info would be great. I really feel like she needs my help with this. TIA!!

First off, that poor little baby
Being switched from one mother to another and then back

I'm sure its possible to relactate. Tell her to spend lots of topless skin to skin time and try to latch him on. It might be easiest when he's sleepy. She should also look into taking fenugreek and drinkin mothers milk tea. Oatmeal might help. Once he starts showing interest and she starts producing, she should cut back on the formula.

Good luck to her.

I can't think of the name right now, but there is the bag & tubing system that allows the baby to receive formula while suckling at the breast. It allows stimulation of the hormones and keeps the baby from being frustrated. It's great she's trying. And good for you for wanting to help!

Of course she can relactate, any woman can, heck-men can!

SNS, supplemental nursing system

Lactaid.

Two devices that help you nurse.. I have the SNS and have used it..

Supply and Demand.. that is how a mother produces enough milk for her baby.

If she wants to relactate, I would suggest the SNS also, she can feed the baby at the breast with this device and ultimately begin producing milk again.

Fenugreek, Mothers Milk Tea, Nursing Mom Tea, Fennel, ect.. all great things to aid in the production of breastmilk

She can get a breast pump and go to town when the baby is not at the breast, or pump the side he is not on.

This will help the milk to come in also.

Skin-to-skin as much as she can.. NO PASSY/BINKI, whatever you call it.

Make the BOOB the Binki!!!

Boob, boob, boob, as much as possible!
