Relocating & finding new care providers - SE Oakland Co.

940 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  ChickityChinah
I have medicare & medicaid - fun fun, I need a good family doc, preferably DO or open minded, and a dentist. I need my teeth cleaned!

For my kids, they have bc/bs which helps. They can go to my family doc I always used since I was 10! I love him, wish I could just go back there.

My daughter has a palate expander and the plan is to have braces on the four front top & bottom. This is cash based, any ortho referrals?

And finally, my son needs a new play therapist if I can't arrange it at school (unlikely) does anyone know of any?

Thanks so much!

We love Dr. Schindler in Novi. The whole family goes there. he is very open minded, has a chiropracter and acupuncturist that he works with. Totally supports (not jus goes along with) with selective or not vaxing, and he's just a really cool, laid back kind of guy. He actually doesn't accept our insurance, but offers us such agood deal on his services that we still go to him anyway. I heart Dr. Schindler!!!
: Good luck with the relocation!

I have been taking DS to Dr. Schindler and he has been fine. He is very flexible with vaxes but told me, almost insisted, I give DS solids at 4 months which I was not happy about. So he's only somewhat crunchy in my opinion.

Many of my crunchy friends use this Dr. and love him!!

I know we've talked about him before, but i just wanted to let you know that with us, he advised strongly against starting solids before 6 months and only suggested that we might try starting a bit earlier when we brought DS to him when he was spitting up blood because of his acid reflux. So I don't know if he has just changed his opinion, since there is a bit of an age difference between out LOs, or what, but it appears to be different at any rate. And I should also point out thta he does maintain some mainstream views, but I find him to be very easy to talk to, and he does not pressure me to do something that I'm not comfortable with. IMHO

I met Dr. Schindler once when my son was 1 day old. He discouraged me from correcting our breastfeeding problem. He said that his kids were all FF and turned out fine.
: I will not go back to him.

I'm not sure if any of these docs above accept medicaid. I do know that Dr.Vincent Granowicz accepts it.He is located in the Basha Building at 13 and Woodward. He is a DO and I liked him very much when I had him as my PCP. He accepts Great Lakes insurance through Medicaid and I believe he works out of Providence. HTH!
Thanks everyone! I know Dr. Schindler from some of the births I attended - not my favorite since he is wishy washy, but many like him. I ***love*** Dr. Nyquist at Floss Avenue but I'd be surprised if he took medicaid/medicare. MY kids can go back to him though.

I will check out Dr. Granowicz!
Aww shucks! I'm so bummed to hear that so many have had issues with Dr. Schindler. I think I'm going to have to reconsider suggesting him to others. He's great for us, so far, but I don't want anyone else to have aless desirable experience with him. Good luck on your quest!
Thanks!
We just moved here as well and after some research ended up finding Dr. Molly O'Shea. She is an experienced pediatrician that has just decided to start a practice on her own. She is open minded and makes herself incredibly available to her patients (emailed me back within an hour on a Sunday evening!). We haven't had much experience with her but so far we like her a lot. Here is her website: http://**********pediatrics.com/

Good luck!
Thanks!
We aren't in SE Oakland anymore, we are now further north...but I lived in Madison Heights for years. We love Dr. Renee Paye and Dr. Mary Beth Steele at Michigan Adult and Child Medicine in Warren. They are just off of VanDyke near Warren City Hall. The number is 586-751-0732. We've been going there for almost a decade, our entire family!! We still make the drive from Rochester because we love them so much!

Our dentist is Dr. Watzman at Edward Street Dental in Madison Heights, off 12 Mile between John R and Dequindre
. Great dentist, great office.
