Resource list for OB/Midwives in Florida

15234 Views 107 Replies 70 Participants Last post by  BaMo
Would anyone like to start a sticky list that would stay permanent for Florida for Midwives and OB/Gyns.

There are so many posts asking for them in different areas of Florida. If Fl residents listed favorites it could stay as a sticky and be used over again for reference instead of people trying to get responses??

Anyone want to contribute??

Kelli Johnson- A Mother's Nature Homebirths 407-699-4207

Incredible woman, I love her!
We just had a waterbirth at home and I caught my little one myself! Kelli encouraged me to do so and it has made for an incredible birth story. She is so wise and intuitive, she has such a good vibe around her. She is also doing my well woman care. Highly recommended.

Jane Houston, in Gainesville -- http://gainesvillemidwife.com/

She is a hospital-based midwife and has done VBACs. Great woman, even though I did not have a successful VBAC, she was always very supportive of me, and tried to meet all of my needs. She is very highly recommended by moms in the area, too.

I ADORE Kelli Johnson! She's AWESOME! She was the MW I worked with for my VBAC.

I interviewed her when I was first pregnant with John. Honestly, I didn't like her at all. (You can PM me for details.) And now there is a question about her license, right? Some insurance companies won't cover a MW who does not have a current license, so that would be something to check into.
There is a great database for midwives, you can search by name or county. You can also see if they are active in their license or are not legal.

http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/IRM00PRAES/PRASLIST.ASP select Midwifery from the drop down list. If you are not low risk, most midwives can recommend an OB.

I had Karin as my midwife for my ds' birth last November. I loved Karin
and would definitely go back to her if we have another one
I loved the fact that she respected my wishes, was very hands off when I needed it and was very efficient and knowledgeable when things got a bit crazy right before my son was born.

I believe her license thing was cleared up - my insurance certainly covered her. Also, I interviewed her when I was pg with my dd (almost 5 now) and ended up going with Labor of Love in Dunedin. Oh how I wish she was my midwife then as well!!! After the two births, I would take out a loan if I had to pay out of pocket for Karin.

guess different strokes for different folks...

Dawn Ragoula (sp?) in Naples, she took us as clients even though the local birthing center turned us down because they don't do VBAC's. She delivered my third homebirth baby and she was just fine. I would reccomend her to my friends.
I LOVE Karin Kearns! I am using her now for my homebirth (due in 4 weeks) and had my last child at Labor of Love in Lutz. There is NO comparasion between Karin and Labor of Love. Yes, her license thingy is all worked out. She's wonderful, and as involved as YOU want her to be.
