Hi everyone... It's been an on-again, off-again journey here. Can't decide if we're still trying to get pregnant or not. I definitely stopped charting and am regretting that, because if I'd been charting I'd have several of my answers that I'm looking for now.

What I'm hoping for is a reminder (links?) about why I might be experiencing shorter cycles -- I *think* my luteal phase (not charting, really, ugh!) is about the same, still, but ovulation's coming early? I don't know. Ugh.

Anyway, the "symptoms" are shorter overall cycles (used to be around 28-31 days with a 13-14 day luteal phase), but twice in the past couple months my period has arrived on day 24? (Don't know if/when I o'd.)

Also, the periods themselves have been really short. 2 days of bleeding and 1-2 days of barely spotting. I used to always have 3-4 days (short for some, I know).

Is it just that I'm getting old, you think? (Will be 38 in July...)

Anyway, this'll teach me to stop charting! It's hard, though, to chart, when we're not ttc. I almost don't want to know because when I can tell o is coming, I end up wanting sex. ;-)

Thanks for any thoughts/resources!

I've had a few cycles that were 25 days. For me, it was related to ovulating early. My LP is always 13 days (ignoring last month's cycle that was just a weird mess.) I bet you are just ovulating early. (I'm 31, btw.)

I have heard that cycles can get shorter or longer as we get older. I don't know if shorter cycles have to do with getting older or if your body is just going though a "phase". If you are concerned, you could always ask your doctor... or start charting again!

Sorry i don't have any links to real info...

What I have seen in myself and my fellow over-40 TTCers is that our cycles to get shorter as we get older and then they abruptly get longer before they stop. The getting longer phase can be related to stress and can and has been reversed when things calm down a bit.

My normal cycle length when I started charting was 25 days. You could set your watch by me. The anovulatory cycles seem to have ben the long ones and when the stress let up a bit, I started having 25 day cycles again, but not consistantly.

I managed to conceive anyway.
Baby is due in February.

Vitex and B6 might lengthen your luteal phase, as might using progesterone creme.

This is something I was actually wondering too. This month I recall having egg white CM on day 7 and I thought this is weird, I think I may O soon - then I thought maybe it was due to the end of my period and wasn't anything. Well then next day I had horrid O pains and 12 days later my period. So my luteal phase remained the same, but I appeared to O earlier this month. So, I too was wondering what would cause me to O so early - very strange!!

I wonder if it causes the eggs to be immature and not viable or anything?

okay, so the thermometer goes back under the pillow (that's where I keep it for easiest temping) tonight... ridiculous not knowing...

thanks so much for the replies. you remind me that I, too, have had REALLY early ewcf -- and really early-in-the-cycle horniness (this has been the case for several months) that makes me think my body's hormones are juggling themselves around. then I end up with almost no fluid around o time (based on cp and temps).

oh, these strange bodies.

I feel like I ought to decide if I really, really, really want to have a baby again and if I do, I'll really pay attention and know myself... if not, it's one less thing on my to-do list (charting, etc.)...
